A flood of complaints have been made by parents and teachers about the Year 6 SATs exams, after claims that a paper left some Year 6 pupils in "tears".

The schools minister, Nick Gibb, said he does not want the tests, which are taken by 10 and 11-year-olds in England, to be "too hard" as that is "not the purpose" of the assessment.

Show us the exam papers so we can see the truth of it.

It's not meant to be easy, that's why it's called a test

I remember being put in the corner of a primary school room to face the corner because I couldn't spell 'Egypt' when I was six years old. Never had a problem spelling 'Egypt' since then.

I'm a Tutor, and I have a few SATs students. It didn't upset my students, but they did find it hard. I tried it myself and I found the first lot of questions challenging, but the other two texts were easier. I lost three marks across the three sections; two of them just errors, but one of them was because I had mistakenly thought the campsite was at the top of the hill, and I couldn't see it being in the valley where the text said it was.

I did really like the texts they chose this year, though. I really like the extract from "The Rise of Wolves", and I've bought the book with the intention of reading it through. The choice of texts in the SATs exam is usually very good, and it's one thing I'll miss when Labour abolish the SATs test in 2025.

No different from when I Did that exam Everyone acted the exact same way I'm 22 years old now And I can say with confidence I still won't pass Because of my learning difficulties And back then I received no help so what's the difference now?

Are young learners fragile as it described? If there is always shortage of practice during the learning journey, only question the last year study and assessment would be too narrow-minded and useless. Study is journey, doing more practices in the process would gain young learners confidence too! If not, even adults will be nervous and panic with tears too.

better make the pass mark 10%, that ll sort it, or maybe a participation certificate

I think we all reach a level where it starts to get uncomfortable in an exam. I had trouble with Jacobian matrix and determinant for the solution of partial difference equations for antenna wave propagation exam questions when I was a teenager for example.

If they’re having trouble then the teachers are not teaching well enough

Sats matter that’s why schools want easier test, change to marks and no offsted reviews. Instead we should encourage competition and higher standards not lower.

It's a hard world out there with a tough crowd, best learnt earlier rather than later.

My year 5 daughter did this and still managed to pass despite not completing the test within the hour. Needed an extra 10 minutes to complete. Achieved over 60% mark within time and 85% for full test complete in a little over an hour. This was not a difficult test for year 6 pupils.

I'm sorry... they're taking SATs at this is it the same as the college SAT? Either way, this seems like an unreasonably sized test for their age.

Not concerning. This will help them mentally prepare for tests both in school and life that actually matter.
