John Deere 4430 Repairs - Part 4 SCV Seals

In this episode, I get to work on the SCV valves while I am waiting for parts for the rockshaft housing. I initially do all of the work on the bench, but the new type seals that John Deere provides end up leaking and so I replace them with the original style o-rings and back-up rings. This video shows both the bench repairs and the in-place repairs after the SCV valves are installed on the tractor.

Spoiler! Yes, I am done with the intended repairs and everything (other than the SCV seals) works great! But I will continue to post all of the videos.

Went to IH hydraulic school almost 50 years ago important don’t use grease on orings use Vaseline, anyways I use Vaseline to hold those detent balls in place. Put a dab on that spring to keep from falling out. Nice job young man !

Boy that's heartbreaking when you get something rebuilt and you spot a leak like that. I'm glad the kit came with the old style o-rings/back-up rings! I'm bookmarking these for when I dig into ours this winter. I've had my eye on a new 4wd, 60 hp tractor for a while and I finally pulled the trigger on it so I'm not using the 4430 so much in its crippled state (plus we really needed something smaller). When you mentioned that your mechanic said you lose all lube pressure when using the hydraulics, I realized I wasn't doing myself any favors. Our internal leak is so bad, the tractor struggles to keep 3-point implements raised. They raise and lower slightly in a herky-jerky sort of way. Definitely not good. Never mind all the other hydraulics being slow to respond.
