Hardest part for me was trying NOT to die laughing at some of the funniest moments of my life.

Speaking as a Marine that went through in 1980, the hardest part was the absolute total chaos of first phase. Then I started asking myself why is this the way it is? There had to be a reason. Then one day it hit me. Marines are here for only two reasons, to kill and break things. That’s it, it’s a simple mission. While completing the mission it is total chaos. A battlefield is a chaotic place. You have to be able to think clearly in that chaos. You have to follow orders in that chaos. Once I figured that out, boot camp was simple and easy. I look back and laugh at how simple it really was once I figured it out. Sure I got thrashed after I figured it out. Too slow or made a mistake. No problem, better to end up in the pit than a bullet in the body. Everything they do is for a reason. Every class, everything in the O course, the confidence course, all of it has a reason. Maybe someday someone will read this before boot camp and it will help.

SSgt Nichols is a true leader. He is a
leader, mentor and protector. A leader sometimes has to break down his men and women, but never ruin. A good sense of humor is important because it helps to maintain morale .

It's actually worse when they try and have a normal conversation with you. You're always left wondering "what's the catch?" 😂😂😂

The hardest thing about recruit training was not receiving my ega from you. That's why your content is so important today. Never quit, never give up. Platoon 1046

This recruit is yet to be born again hard. Something tells me this SSGT will have him straight, quick time.

Apples to oranges but our first meet with the drills at Ft McClellan was eye-opening. 23 new privates, with at least 10 there to welcome us from the reception center.
I will never forget SSGs Jones and Nieves from our first night.
Hope they are doing well.

I was in the army but I have really appreciated watching these marine training videos. I recommend anyone join the military for the reason of discipline and think about life beyond yourself

A willingness to change was the hardest part for me in 1975.

Grateful to see this; that today's technology and the unfailing integrity of the USMC has allowed it. Fifty-eight years ago, July 1, '66, we came to MCRD San Diego as the "North Star Series." We became "eight week wonders" because "we were losing over 100 a week over there." My platoon #1051 lucked out. We had Staff Sgt. Nichols, Sgt. Gomes, Sgt. Martinez, and Corporal Winborne. Yes, Sir, excellence is timeless, and this is one amazing life parallel. Thank You, Sir. Semper Fi.

😮 the first time our platoon met our drill instructors, talk about insanity and chaos, and our first conditioning march in the sand in Paris island. In 76. In july. Got to love the challenge 😮
