It is truly unfortunate to witness how the influence of money can tarnish and ultimately dismantle what once appeared to be a solid and thriving friendship. The bond that existed between Dennis Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan was palpable, marked by a powerful chemistry that seemed to suggest a deep connection and mutual respect. Their interactions were often filled with laughter and camaraderie, making it hard to believe that anything could come between them.

Yet, it is a stark reminder of how financial matters can complicate even the most genuine relationships, leading to misunderstandings and rifts that seem impossible to mend. What once seemed like an unbreakable bond can unravel under the weight of monetary concerns, leaving behind a trail of lost trust and fractured ties.

Nah....he can negotiate his own contract. What has it got to do with her? He was the lead on that show and incredibly quick witted. Denise was the secondary presenter. And no, it had nothing to do with gender or anything like that. He was the lead presenter and it was plain to see.

Johnny did nothing wrong to negotiate his contract separately unless it was agreed not to upfront

Johnny was quick-witted and funny. Speaking honestly, Denise was the eye candy. She is talented. Just because Johnny got more money, she broke friendship. Great friend.

To be fair Johnny Vaughan was the star of big breakfast

It’s always a difficult situation to deal with in any environment like that.
The best example of how it played out evenly for all was the Friends cast.
Who UNITED as one and made sure each of them got paid the same.
Believe that was the only time that the gamble paid off. ❤

To be fair it is normal to negotiate your own contract when a presenter. Why is it up to him to negotiate for Denise or any member of the team ?

To be fair you have to negotiate at a rate your happy with . Then it doesn't matter what rate someone else is on . That's really your fault for not negotiating better or your agent.

Denise was fantastic. Jonny was a powerhouse though, he really made the show what it was. He completely transformed it and made it so exciting. I can see why his agents might go down that angle. I miss the show from that era. It was special.

Moral of the story.... Money is more important than friendship. - that fight over money proballey cost them BOTH alot of very happy memories... people don't often think of it like that.

Maybe they offered her and Vaughan what they felt they were worth to them? If they think he's going to help them pull more viewers in, more ad revenue, then he's more valued to them, hence a higher salary. When Mbappe joined Madrid does it mean that every player gets paid the same as him? They pay you what youre worth to them? Think she makes herself look bad in this.

Get rid of your agent, not your friend!

Both Denise and Johnny were the same essentially. Johnny was looking out for himself insofar as his future earnings. And because Denise had future earnings through acting too, her focus was more on their friendship. Both looking after their own needs at the end of the day. Both had different needs. Seems to me Denise had a bit of an ego. Which isn't to say Johnny did too. But if he negotiated his own financial contract that should not have affect their relationship. Even if, in her eyes, they were a presenting couple. Again, she's thinking of her own interests. I imagine if she spent a bit of time properly meditating on Johnny's point of view, she'd see that.

All Denise did was make innuendos and flirt with people, pretty much what she’s still doing 30 years later.

She wasn't very good on the Big Breakfast in my opinion. She was just some model from Loaded who was forced on the mainstream. Her fake ladette antics were cringe worthy and seemed forced. When i think about it, she never did that much after the Big Breakfast. I think she appeared in a short lived sitcom and may have done some theatre, but she really hasn't been on TV much at all. The reality is the TV industry has a non stop supply of drop dead gorgeous women who struggle to get a gig. She was one of the lucky ones
