Accessing Cox Mail Through Yahoo on Outlook

Cox users encountering issues accessing their emails outside of the Yahoo mail website after the transition? No worries, we've got you covered! In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of accessing your Cox mail through a third-party app like Outlook.

Yahoo's shift to two-factor authentication complicates things for Outlook users, as it lacks native support for Yahoo Mail's two-factor verification. But fear not, we have a workaround! You'll need to generate an app password specifically for Outlook. Here's how:

Visit the Yahoo website from your browser and navigate to the settings by clicking the settings icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select your profile name and choose Account Info. If prompted, sign in again. Click on Security, and scroll down until you find "Generate app password."

If Two-step verification isn't enabled, you'll need to turn it on before proceeding.

In the "Generate an app password" window, enter "Outlook" as the app and click "Generate password."

Yahoo will generate an app password for Outlook. Copy this password (without spaces) and use it when Outlook prompts you for a password or input it into server settings in Outlook.

Encountering the error message "Sorry, this feature is not available right now"? Don't panic. Keep trying at random times until it works.

Now, let's configure Outlook:

Open Outlook and click "File" in the top left corner, then select "Info."

Change the Server Settings within Outlook from Cox to Yahoo settings.

Click "Next" and then "Done."

That's it! You should now be able to access your Cox email seamlessly through Outlook, even after the transition to Yahoo. Great instructions. No clue why Cox won't tell us this.

Thank you for posting this very helpful video. I hate the look and adverts in the yahoo site. Your video got me back to Outlook.

Great info! My wife told me I could do this since I've used Outlook for years. Much more used to it than yahoo mail with ads and a whole different feel. thanks soooo much !!

Wow! Awesome! I never thought this was possible. I had everything all set up with correct servers and settings, however I was not using a generated password and it would not connect. When I used the generated PW it immediately connected! Thank you!

Great instructions! Used the Generate App Password, changed the account info to the Yahoo settings, and Outlook did the rest. Thanks for the tutorial!

Thank you - nice, concise video. It's basically the same procedure for Windows Live Mail (my wife still uses) and Windows Mail. (Windows is pushing everyone to their New Outlook, so probably just a matter of time for that.) Happy to see your responses to the comment on moving the email folders to the Cox Email Address now going through Yahoo, so will work on that next.

Thank you... I had to switch to the "new" Outlook to get it to work, but you definitely got me started on the right track. Cox sucks... :)

It worked for me! For the Android email client I needed to generate a Yahoo password for POP access and generate a second for the SMTP access. Rather odd, but I'm working now.

Cox and Yahoo support for this has been horrible!

Please do iPhone and iPad demo! Love your detail!

Close enough for me to get it working, and better than the no information from Cox and infinite wait for Yahoo support. Not all the server options were clearly laid out, but the defaults I previously set for Cox worked. I previously had a POP account, and trying to change it to an IMAP caused an error. Reverting back to POP worked.

Thanks for this video ... looks like it should work, but I am struggling since the Outlook menus on Mac do not have all the options shown on the Windows version. Is there a way to do it on Mac or do I just to need to delete the old non-Yahoo Cox account and then add the Yahoo Cox account in its place?

Great clear instructions! Now how do I do this on my iPhone or iPad? Your the best video I’ve seen so please do one for apple devices after I already completed mine on outlook 365!

Thanks for the great video and tips. Now to find why all my folders are showing in Yahoo and only some are showing in Outlook!

I did it without the 3rd party password. It’s easier to delete your old accounts after saving an archive. Then add a new account to the yahoo server. Much cleaner.

This is a great video. My problem---I am using the "New Outlook" and it does NOT have the "File" to click on. Anywhere that I can find. I checked the "ribbon", and still no "file." I get to the email Manage Accounts, but it doesn't offer password and imap, etc changes. Do you know what I can do? Thanks...

Thanks for the tutorial. On this end, however, after entering the new incoming mail info, another window pops up with the Cox server info (i.e., the old info), and it does not allow any changes in that field.

Found this while searching why my folders aren't coming across in Outlook now. They are still on the Cox servers, and Yahoo has them in their own folders directory, but that doesn't seem to be translating to Outlook. Queried the IMAP folders, but they aren't showing up. It's like Yahoo has segregated my folders from my inbox.
