Gave me the key tip to get it out of a VCR that was "fried" - wouldn't turn on. The tip was working the gear to get it to eject. I removed the motor that would normally run the eject of the tape, and that made it easy to turn the gear.😃

Possible options if you are not comfortable forcing gears.
A: If removing the electric motor attached to the gears is easier. It will take the tension out of the mechanism.
B: Use the motor. It looks like a standard DC motor. You might try powering the big solder joints with a 9v battery you have lying around. If you are comfortable with that sort of thing, and the motor is not the thing that died.

I would be very uncomfortable using a screwdriver on plastic gear like that. Wouldn't that increase the likelihood of breaking the plastic gear teeth?
