It's almost like if you give free money to people they dont go to work

What do you expect when you have grown 20 year olds living in moms basement for free, and getting the paid to do nothing at work. Even though the extra funds aren't much, many would rather just get by then work.

When you get payed more on unemployment than you make at your job, why the heck go back to work ? It's simple logic here CNBC .

Free money with no threat of foreclosure or eviction...why would anyone go back to work? It’s hard to blame the people for benefiting from a broken system.

Ppl on unemployment are looking at this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. U take May, June, July and August off and still get paid more then u would to go to work. I think it just makes sense for most ppl. In September they’ll start petitions to extend enhanced unemployment benefits for another 4 years or so with an extra $600!” Weekly boost. I’m already seeing movements on social media to get the word out on getting more money plus another stimmy

Reopening appears not to mean going back to the status quo of December 31, 2019. If office workers are going to work from home an average of two days a week, then weekly, daytime foot traffic around office buildings will only be about 60 percent of pre-covid levels. That affects in-person businesses near office buildings, and it may be that many can't break even with that kind of reduced foot traffic while others have to be careful about hiring. At the same time, trying to require businesses to make office workers come in to the office five days a week could lead to higher payroll costs (businesses may have to pay workers more if they can't work from home) and it would eliminate potential profit gains from using at-home work as a reason to reduce the amount of office space they rent. Reopening may be affected by structural changes that are not completely understood at this time.

the truth is the claim that the economy is growing contradicts the job reduction.

people are making more money sitting at home than they did at minimum wage jobs. why would they go back? there's plenty of work out there. people just don't want to go back.

People are forgetting....they revised the previous month DOWN!! Even last month wasn’t as strong as they thought. So this is not just a blip on the radar

It contradicts that unemployment pays more

The next thing thats going to take the number down is when major companies day they want their employees to work in office and employees are not going to want to come back in. They are going to rather be laid off and find a company that will allow them to work remotely and stocks are gonna skyrocket again

the living wage is the problem not the unemployment - pay the workers more and this will fix itself - stop taking advantage of workers who just want a living wage

The pandemic has opened the eyes of many Americans & with the cost of living, goods & services on the rise, $7.25 to $11 hour jobs doesn't help people. Perhaps this is a small piece that may explain why people are reluctant to return to work. On another note, perhaps some individuals are still skeptical about the lingering disease that we're faced with. Not everyone who has yet to return to work is lazy.

You don’t need a job that pays MORE to come back to work. Its also about your time. You can
1. stay home and get paid OR
2. work 8 hours each day and get paid a little more.

Even though #2 pays more, you have to trade in 40 hours a week to do so. I rather sit on my ass and watch netflix all day and get paid less. As long as i have money for pizza and beer. Right?
