The Supreme Court will be hearing several cases on the death penalty this session, and Justice Scalia has predicted it will be overturned. So what would it look like if the U.S. got rid of the death penalty?

Death penalty should be removed, but one of the arguments from this video is pretty weak.

Countries like Japan has capital punishment aka death penalty, yet their crime rate is significantly lower. How do you explain that?

I think the argument that the death penalty is disproportionately applied to minority offenders is a stretch...45% to 55% is not that far off from 50-50. I don't think this a particular situation is a race issue.

I completely agree that taking away capitol punishment would bring more equality, and more time to set truth to the law because a lot of the time we are wrong about who is guilty. However, I do not see how letting prisoners sit in jail is going to be cheaper than killing them.

I'm only for the death penalty when we know they are 100% guilty... Some people are truly a waste of air and life... If you really think a man that rape and kills a 5 year child don't deserve death, you have no heart.. Their are somethings you can't justify

I believe that the death penalty, in concept, is a just punishment for serious crimes. I agree that it drastically needs improvement in its execution (no pun intended) but it should still be around. Some solutions include things like: having blanket punishments that apply to all who commit the same crime as to make any teo people who commit the same crime to be punished the same, therefore eliminating the minority factor.
