To all you people, it's the woman who didn't understand how chargeback works and that's why she went to small claims. Let me explain it to you. I've dealt with thousands of these idiots back when I used to work as a customer service rep for a bank.

The woman did not pay $2400. She paid $1308 as shown in the statement (it was a debit transaction). The guy told her he would issue a refund of $1180 (credit transaction with + sign a.k.a. refund) which was around $128 lesser for the bumper sticker. Now, she also disputed the charge with her credit card. They gave her a temporary credit for the same amount of $1180 (chargeback becomes permanent only after a certain deadline but temporary initially). So, she got two refunds--one from the workshop and one from the credit card chargeback. Now, when credit cards detect direct refunds from merchants, they rebill the chargeback amount, so, her credit card statement would have shown another charge of $1180 to cancel out the temporary chargeback. A few weeks would have passed now, possibly even a couple of months and she would have made other purchases on her credit card so with all the other purchases, she became confused with the calculation. because now, some time has passed, and all she knew was her credit card paid the workshop again for $1180, so in her confused mind all she could think of was 1308+1180=2488, when not realizing (intentionally or unintentionally...people are stupid and evil and after working in customer service I hate everyone) that she should have also calculated the two refunds for 1180 and 1180, meaning 1308+1180-1180-1180=128 (THE AMOUNT FOR THE BUMPER STICKER). But like I said before, a few weeks would have passed and possibly with hundreds of other transactions on her card statement for groceries etc. she thought the workshop got more money because she was confused now with the calculation and she probably didn't pay for the chargeback amount initially (she didn't have to while it was being disputed) and then made more charges and didn't pay for her balance because the 2nd refund also reduced her credit card balance, but then boom! The rebill occurred so, since she had already let the 2nd refund pay for her own transactions on her statement (instead of paying with her own money from her own bank account), she then thought she had to pay an extra amount when she saw her credit card statement for the rebill amount of 1180. That's the story folks. Trust me, this was what happened.

Why would you spend that much on repairs for a worthless car? If you are spending more on repairs than the car is worth you need to have it junked and get a better car.

Well let the woman speak for crying out loud. It's possible that after the work the defendant did, the car still failed the smog test. If that's the case, then she has grounds to collect her money back from him.
