Sir Lindsay Hoyle apologises after Penny Mordaunt attack

Sir Lindsay Hoyle was forced to apologise to MPs, saying: “It was never my intention for it to end up like this” , after his decision to allow amendments by both Labour and the Conservatives to be debated as part of a Gaza ceasefire vote.

He still faces a potential challenge to his position, with the Scottish National Party (SNP)’s Westminster leader suggesting he should go, and some backbench Tory MPs collecting signatories for a motion of no confidence.

The row led to MPs storming out the chamber.

Yes he's gotta go .... But what is really worrying is Starmer's terrible handling of was facing a massive rebellion in his own party ....he's gotta realise this is not a dictatorship ...or is this what we have to look forward

Look carefully and you will see Starmer's boot-marks on Hoyle's neck.

Honestly fair play, as much as I disagree with Tory policy, the Speaker has to be impartial and he wasn't. The Gaza debate is controversial ofc and there's clearly lots of passion and emotion within the debate but the speaker needs to allow both sides of the House to have their say, it isn't democracy otherwise

Penny needs to be inserted into No.10 before Sunak loses the 2024 Election.

Well said Penny 👏👏👏👏 This was a biased abuse of procedure in which the Speaker and Starmer were complicit!

What a debate to drop such a premeditated clanger on 🤦‍♂️

At best Lindsey has been played by Starmer, at worse he has been threatened by Starmer. Hoyle is done, it is more a question of what Labour did to get this farce in play.

There is not an "honourable" person amongst the lot of them.

Shes accumulating a strong record of major statements in the House as leader, and manages to be respected by most of it. Business Questions is often worth a watch - its what PMQs should be more like -with people asking for things to be done, or updates on policy, and she's impressive as someone who can actually say whats going on across government, Shes also deadly when she wants to attack her opponents.

I suspect historians will be amazed that the news paper barons and enough MPs instesd inflicted Truss on the country, added to the economic problems, and then enthroned Sunak as the walking Treasury calculator who is weaker in debate, and seems to think doiing nothing will work if you just assume so.

I wish MPs put this much enthusiasm into fixing healthcare and housing. Not voting on some war in a place nowhere near the united kingdom.

He is looking after No1, he doesn't want to lose his job, how corrupt.

"Sir Lindsay Hoyle apologises after Penny Mordaunt attack" - always happy to jump in with corrections, . This is factually incorrect, It was the SNP who had an opposition day. His apology was absolutely nothing to do with Penny. Still do not let the facts get in the way of your 'message'.
