Inheritance shows the relation between genotype and phenotype, In this video from simple biology, Mr. Mahdi explains the principles of inheritance. The genotype is the combination of alleles while the phenotype is the observable physical and chemical features. A dominant allele always expressed if present while the recessive allele is expressed only if the dominant allele is not present. A monohybrid cross involves 1 trait only and the results can be obtained using a Punnett square as a ratio or percentage. A test cross is used to determine the genotype of an individual showing the dominant phenotype. We can deduce if the allele responsible for a condition is dominant or recessive by analyzing a pedigree which shows the inheritance of a certain phenotype in a family over generations. sex-linked characteristics is coded by a gene located in one of the sex chromosomes X or Y and it affects mainly males. Codominance when both alleles are expressed in the heterozygous state, an example of codominance is the inheritance of ABO blood type., A and B are codominant to each other while they are dominant over O.
