First thing first I guess - yes, she did indeed sing Odin! And 'Helvegen' - it's like a funerary song: marking the 'way(vegen)/travel' to 'Hel', where you according to Old Norse belief where headed to after you died.
So - this will be my funerary-song. Definitely!
And also, as you said - you don't really have to prefer one version over the other, they're all good.
