My review of Gothic literature's 'The Necromancer' by Peter Teuthold, published originally in 1794.

Subtitled 'A Tale of the Black Forest' this is a gothic tale of the mysterious Necromancer; a practitioner of the occult who uses magic and witchcraft to conjure ghosts and spirits. This classic, scary tale was once thought to only a figment of writer Jane Austen's imagination after she referenced it in 'Northanger Abbey' as one of 'seven horrid novels' that lovers of gothic literature should read.

I mentioned that I’ll be reading this along with the other six Jane Austen “Horrid” novels as part of a group read next year.
