This is a fine song, but it kind of feels like they took a pop songwriting class after Rookery and are following a formula. Now that they're signed to a major label, I hope they aren't being forced to go more pop. I hope they can expand on the more complex lyrics and experimental sounds they had on Rookery-- Quicksand is one of their biggest songs for a reason.

Allen, die hier in Jubel ausbrechen über dieses nicht mal 3 Minuten lange Liedchen, sei empfohlen, Taro von Alt-J anzuhören. Das ist die Art von Musik, die Giant Rooks bis vor kurzem noch gemacht haben und mit der sie in der ganzen Welt berühmt geworden sind. Fred hatte in einem Interview mal gesagt, dass sie einst u.a.viel Alt-J gehört haben. Und dann bitte anhören What I know is all quicksand (Rookery live tapes). Für mich ein Meisterwerk. Und zum Schluss Mind control. Ich weiß nicht, wie es manchem von Euch dabei geht. Mir jedenfalls kommen die Tränen. Leider nicht vor Freude. Einige reden hier von Entwicklung. Für mich bedeutet das vorwärts, nicht rückwärts. Das gilt auch für das Video.
Übrigens bin ich 69 Jahre alt, und noch nie war ich ein so glühender Fan von einer Band wie von Giant Rooks, nicht mal von den Beatles, Jimi Hendrix und Janis Joplin.

I don't know why people writing about changing the style of GR, 'cause I hear them, I hear their unique music in this new song. They're all the same, but maybe because of the new album it sounds so unfamiliar for someone. Anyway I love new song (it took me a month to realise there's a new music 'cause I don't use VPN so often living in Russia) and I love everything that you guys do. This is one of those bands whose songs I can listen to no matter what style they were written at. I'm proud of you, do what you love and don't be afraid of experiences, you can always find your listener but it's quite hard to find yourself. I'm also excited to listen this one life!

loved what they did there. i see some people commenting about how their style changed and how they might be following a formula, but i dont think so. giant rooks is known for their versatility and expressivity - their past albuns don't represent indie, neither they're representing pop now. what they've in fact always done is expressing their worldview and own feelings through their songs, and this is what i see there. they're, as always, experiencing things and having fun, and now more than ever in a gorgeous way. love you guys.

Its a very beautiful song, fun and vibranting as they are ❤️ but im afraid they fall into this awful pop rabbit hole .. their music has always been so meaningful profound and not for everyone i relate to many of their songs and they kinda bring into words and sensations things i couldn’t express .. rookery and hhyb ware and will continue to be their best albums ever …i cant pass a day without listening to their songs and each time i doo i wish and couldn’t be more excited for them to come with new ones …
Soo to all the members Fred, Luca, Finn, Jonathan and finn and all the team and hidden members
We know the pressure that comes with making new music especially under the flashlights but you were far more beautiful and resonating than you might think in our eyes and you will continue to be beautiful and delightful soo please don’t change the music it was rare and soo unique

Ich hasse den Song jetzt nicht, aber ich verstehe was viele meinen. Ich sehe hier wirklich sehr viel, sehr nett geäußerte Kritik in den Kommentaren, der ich schon etwas zustimmen muss. Ich mochte ihr zweites Album immer noch sehr, aber die letzten 3 Singles (Somebody like you, For you und jetzt Mind Control) sind wirklich absolut reiner Pop und die Text haben weniger Tiefgang als früher. Ich finde, diese neue Entwicklung hat erst ab dort angefangen. Wäre schön wenn sie etwas darüber nachdenken - ist das wirklich die Musikrichtung die ihr machen wollt Jungs? Ich habe euch nie als Musiker eingeschätzt, die nur das machen was sich gut verkauft und die Algorithmen hoch pushen können, sondern als ehrliche, authentische Band. Ich hoffe ihr geht euren Weg weiter!
