Lawmakers in Brussels today agreed on far-reaching reforms to EU immigation policies. The European Parliament approved what's billed as a fairer system of settling new immigrants among the 27 member states. The changes will bring in tougher border checks and force all countries to share responsibility for immigration. The agreement follows nearly a decade of wrangling.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has welcomed the reforms as historic and indispensable. But Poland's prime Minister Donald Tusk says his government will not accept the relocation mechanism.

Total waste of time. Nothing will work other than physically turning the boats around and returning all of those who arrive/have arrived illegally with a clear policy that any attempt at illegal entry will result in a life long ban on their legal entry.

*Sex offenders in the UK now argue that committing that same crime in their native country would result in death penalty, thus they cannot be deported*

I don't understand why eu countries would allow illegal ppl to come stay and use all the privilege while international students have to go through a lot of problems just to get a part time job.

Once asylum is granted, the first thing they do is fly back to their country of origin for a holiday to see family and friends, the very country from which they fled 'persecution'.

Congratulation to Poland. We should now all buy land there. It will be the only livable country left in Europe for your children.

It's interesting how the minister of inmigration at the UE is swedish, while her country closes borders she works hard so the rest of EU countries keep their open.

Why are you afraid of terrorist attacks if you want to accept anybody without documents?! Just look at Sweeden Malmö, the military has to be activated to solve some migration band problems?! It was one of the most safest city in the world!

Countries should not be forced to be open like Germany. That creates conflict in the EU for no good reason.
