Good job Mark bit tricky working of a ladder I usually spend more time going up and down the ladder getting bits than actually working, Them helical bars are a great job but need to shop around for good price as can be silly money, will give that anchor set a go next week 👍

We used to do a lot of subsidence repairs for direct line and a couple of other home insurance companies and the repairs specified by the structural engineers were exactly the same with spiral bars except rather than setting them with epoxy resin they had us use combextra which was basically tile adhesive. They would specify one bar for every four courses that the crack ran through so you have done a good repair they're bud. 👍🙂

I am going to put these helix bars in my brick shed close to the flat roof due to cracking. Its 3 courses and and metre long job. The shed was newly built about 4 years ago so don't know the reason as two bricks have cracked in half. The builder came and gave no explanation except there was movement.

Nice job there mark and nice attention to detail 👌🏼, I’ve been grinding out black mortar all day/, look like I’ve been down a coal mine 😬🤣🧱👍🏼

Can anyone tell me if it's ok to use resin for these bars or if you should really use the special grout stuff they sell you with the kits.

Hiya Mark, that came out really well - looks a treat mate 👍👍.
Love your little Westie ♥ ❤
You want to get a Tajima Convoy silicon gun mate. I use that resin for setting masonary hangers in existing walls & I know how hard it can be, just cripples your hands. I bought the Tajima Convoy from TF TOOLS (£30 ish) honestly mate, one of the best things I've bought. I can squeeze those tubes out now using 2 fingers & do it all day long.
Hope you have a good one mate 👍

Tim

I have to say, lots of things you are doing are totally unnecessary. If mortar joints have cracked, most likely it's from settling .
Using these caulks is a lesson in fultulity .. just saw out the joints and use a grout bag to fill in the joint space thoroughly .
I've had a couple of English Brickies complain about using grout bags ...as I've heard over here in Texas .
But once you learn how to use grout bags properly, it's very neat and saves so much time . It also thoroughly fills in the joints, from back to front .

Should of grinded all that cement mortar out. That will destroy the bricks in years to come. Working off a ladder was half the battle. You should rent a snap on scaffold for maybe 100 per week.

Is it necessary to do on a single story garage? Put the rods in I mean.

Alright Mark what depth do resin in the bars at. I was thinking take out around 55mm mortar to have the bar sitting in the middle of the bed?

I have never seen these curly rods. Be careful working up on the high ladders, one fall is one too many 🤕

If u gonna use cent instead use coal ash to lime 10%and 1 lime if hydrated use 3 parts hydrated its weak. Quicklime n coal ash set in 5 days. Old materials are best cement causes super million dollar business damage even in billions rot fungus. Lime does not grow fungus breathable for moisture vapour water realse

Hire a cherry-picker for a day ! You shouldn´t be standing on a ladder / porch roof all day especially with your cavalier attitude to ( lack of ) safety gear. Ladder rungs cause ´point loading´ to the foot soles and can affect your spine. I´m in Denmark and no tradesman here would consider tackling that task without a cherry - picker / lift. They have a greater regard for their health. We are fast approaching 2021 NOT 1921. Please consider your health . Thank you.

Very difficult on the ladder my friend, get an electric caulking gun, it will save your life mate. I have a metabo and it is fantastic. Great job though! Regards
