My dad was number two on a BREN during WW2. During an engagement with the Japanese he had changed the barrel but in the heat of battle hadn't quite locked it down. As soon as the gunner fired the barrel worked itself loose and flew a few feet away from them. As it was the last barrel he had to retrieve it under fire.

The main advantage of a Bren was that it was incredibly accurate for an automatic.
One small issue, it walked itself forwards.
It had adjustable gas operated system too.

Fun fact: The Bren Gun is beloved by the British and Commonwealth soldiers in the field for it's combat effectiveness and superb reliability, it's ability to withstand severe maltreatment and improper use made it a favourite of various resistance groups. Also the Bren is deemed "too acurate" for a light machine gun making it an ineffective suppressive weapon, during WW2 so it was common for soldiers to swap new barrels with worn out ones to enhance the Bren's suppressive capabilities.
