If the pyramid was taller or shorter, would the shorter path still be the triangle path?

Let side length of square or equilateral triangle=2a unit
According to this video shortest distance =2a+a=3a
However, for me the shortest distance= median or perpendicular or bisector of one equilateral triangle +line segment joining mid points of another equilateral triangle=(sqrt3×a +a)unit= 2.733a units approximately
