Filming Los Angeles Above 10,000 Feet

I fly an airplane above 10,000 feet to film Los Angeles from a new perspective rarely seen before. Because of the airspace restrictions of LAX, it's difficult to fly over many parts of the city, especially at altitudes above a couple thousand feet. So I put some cameras on a small airplane and went above the LAX airspace restriction of 10,000 feet.

Music (in order):
Michael McQuaid - Bones
Romeo - Fragility
DaniHaDani - Change
Borrtex - Rising of the Sun
Rex Banner - Human
Yehezkel Raz - Deep Blue Sea
C.K. Martin - Gate of Wonder

Awesome videos and storytelling! Growing up, weekends were when my Dad and I cleaned, fixed, or flew our little Cessna 172 in rural Wisconsin. Dad would always ask me where I wanted to go as we lifted off, and he let me take the controls for most flights. One day I asked if he ever flew up to 10, 000ft. I don’t know if he was humoring me, but he said no. So that day we climbed and climbed until the whole world opened up. The forests, lakes, and rivers of my childhood took on a different perspective that I will never forget. I remember watching the temperature gauge on the vent drop and drop, and hearing the engine sound different. Now that he is gone; this is one of my fondest memories of my Dad. The sound of your prop as you flared for landing brings me right back. I must have some dust in my eyes.

"Distance adds enchantment to the view"... I agree whole heartedly.

Beautiful. One thing is telling that 18 million people live in the city but another very different thing is showing the huge amount of houses. It brings 18 million into perspective. All those people, good people, bad people, people going through bad times, some enjoying good times. The contrast between the complexity of anyone's life and the ordered grid of the city. This is a really good video, good job.

Dude, this is excellent; well presented. As a native Angeleno and huge Google Earth fan - I recognized what I was seeing, with a refreshing perspective. L.A. is BIG. Thanks for the ride.

Always amazes me when you see the crap on YT getting millions of views yet this sublime art gets so little.
This was amazing in every way.

This was such a beautiful video! Seeing the LA metro area from that perspective is incredible. I do this often using Google Earth and MS Flight Sim and it's so amazing seeing it in real video. I've also flown around the area before IRL but not at that altitude and did not have that straight down view with a camera. I've always loved the geography of the whole LA metro area. Especially all the rolling foothills and the mountains. Seeing everything from this altitude, it makes everything down there look so calm. To think that this great number of people are down there, all next to each other trying to do life and exist, it's incredible.

And btw I saw two of my old neighbourhoods in this video 😄😄.

I only have my sport and haven't been up in a while because of a lot of depression nonsense that I've lost the drive for a lot of things but this video is so inspiring.

This is the best video that I've ever seen of the area. Fantastic on your part for doing it. Safe skies!!

Holy wow!!! Amazing! I was in love with LA before but now I have a whole new appreciation for it. What a stunning city. Truly cosmopolitan. The best landscape contrasts. ❤ A city of Earth. 🌎

I have seen many aerial images of LA and surrounding areas. However, I think you may have captured my favorite. Your cross view of the Santa Monica Range is the best I have seen that clearly shows the separation between the San Fernando Valley and the coastal cities. Not only does it reveal the barrier those mountains create, but you an also see the elevation discrepancy between the two areas that are so close together yet separated in so many ways. I paused and studied that image for quite a while. Well done, and Thank You.

Beautiful unique shots, this is indeed an original perspective. Seeing a jetlines from above while it is on approach to LAX is a new experience. I want to give kudos for the well-chosen music and especially the narration: it is very informative. Well done!

The density is incredible and the lack of any green space a little sad. Super cool view from 10, 000 feet!

I used to flay with my dad in his PzL-104 Wilga back in the 70s. One day we had to flight certify it for altitude so we took off from Chino and flew to around 14, 000 feet. I was stunned - I had never seen clean, clear LA air - you could literally see all the smoke belching from the Fontana steel mills and the inversion layer topping out a few thousand feet below us.

That trip ended up being one of my most memorable ever - the Wilga has auto lean for climbing but not auto rich for descending so at around 8, 000 feet the engine cut off. Seeing as the starter used compressed air we only had a few shots at restarting, thankfully my dad got it going on the first try.

Later on when we were descending into San Diego for some well earned food at the Red Baron restaurant the tower had problems eyeballing us, it was only when we were about 4 miles out that we realised that we were on final for NAS Miramar !

My best friend flew with me that time - first flight for him also his last !

Damn thanks for this video, it brought me a bunch of good memories from when I lived in Marina del Rey in 12/13, certainly the best years of my life.
