L. van Beethoven: Symphony No. 6, in F major, op. 68, “Pastoral” (arr. for string sextet by M. Gotthard Fischer)
I. Allegro ma non troppo
II. Andante molto mosso
III. Allegro
IV. Allegro
V. Allegretto

The Pastoral Symphony expresses, in Beethoven’s words, ‘the emotions man feels in the country’. Through the work’s different movements, the composer guides the listener through his rural soundscape, beginning with the awakening of cheerful feelings on arriving in the countryside, followed by a scene by the brook and the merry gathering of country folk to which a thunderstorm invites itself (thunder, storm) before concluding with the shepherd’s song, and cheerful and thankful feelings after the storm.

Recorded on November 25, 2020
