Quite simply, the worst bank to work for. I worked at the Bootle site in Liverpool for 37 years.
Used to love working there when it was National Girobank then latterly when it was taken over by Alliance and Leicester.
However things rapidly went downhill when Santander took over.
Systematic erosion of wage levels and staff benefits.
Employing agency workers to drive down wage levels.
My department was outsourced to an outside company in 2010.
A job I took great pride in and loved, taken away after 22 years. To be done somewhere else by other workers for less pay, however it was proved by my department boss that our staff could do the work cheaper than an outside company. Even after re equipment costs in our area were taken into consideration. Santander didn't want to know.
Resulting in staff being made redundant. I managed to get re deployed in Santander, losing £5700 per year shift allowance.
Disgusting low life tactics by these crooks.
I along with other workers were then TUPE transferred 5 times.
Business banking jobs sent to India. Yet they spend millions sponsoring La Liga football in Spain, Champions league football and Formula 1 motor racing.
Then in 2022 Santander shut the Bootle site. Using the Pandemic as an excuse.
Cancelled the new Bootle building and diverted £75 million to Milton Keynes, to make that new site even bigger.
Levelling up isn't happening in Liverpool!
My department looked after ppi payments amongst other things. We worked on site throughout the Pandemic to ensure customers got their ppi payments. As this work could not be done from home.
We were told we would be moving to Santander's new rented premises in Liverpool. THEY LIED.
They refused to accommodate contractor staff in their new rented premises in Liverpool. Instead Santander sent our work to Sunderland and Dagenham. The rest to Milton Keynes.
Redundancy is the thanks we got. Absolutely disgusting.
Generations of families have worked at Bootle since 1968. These jobs have now gone forever, thanks to Santander.
They use people, then spit them out. Shameful way to run a business.
