Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding in Women

Dr. Todd Schad, gynecologist and obstetrician, discusses dysfunctional uterine bleeding in women.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is irregular bleeding that is unrelated to pregnancy or childbirth.

This could mean that your menstrual cycle is causing you to have heavy bleeding, frequent bleeding or irregular bleeding.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding can be caused by cancer, fibroids, polyps or hormones.

If you are having abnormal bleeding, a good place to start is to see your family physician. Your family physician can initially evaluate you and ask you the proper questions to determine what the next steps to take are.

A gynecologist is another provider that can evaluate and dignose your problem. A gynecologist specializes in women's health issues and can treat those issues once diagnosed, including possible surgery.
