Lived in Namibia for a few years when I was younger (expat kid woo). this is a great video, but I have to say that there's so much more to Namibia than Safari and animals. So much rich culture, history and excellent food. A lot of people also forget that it also had a similar history of apartheid as South Africa as it used to be a part of South Africa up until 1990 and was known as South West Africa.

Thank you, Rhett and Claire for this incredibly informative and fun video! It was such a delight to watch and learn so much about Namibia from you two. I'm planning a 2-3 week trip in May/June 2025, fully planned by a tour company, as it's my first visit to Namibia. Can't wait to see all these beautiful places and take tons of photos/videos to share with my family and on my SM sites. Take care and be well! 🥰🙏

Interesting! As a born Southwest African (Namibian) you did not cover everything. You left out the most important element of Namibia - the people and the warmth and welcoming attitude (called gemutlichkeit in German - there is no word to translate it). Namibia is very much like South Africa since it was a protectorate of South Africa for nearly a century - but with better roads and electricity. There usually are a doctor and a pharmacy in all big towns and sometimes even in a small town. The food and most produce are since independence mostly imported from South Africa, so fairly expensive. Previously it was locally grown and produced. Beef is still exported. If you really want to experience the best of Namibia go with a local tour guide or company. Self drive is ok - if you know where to go and what to do - however, you will miss out on the interesting history and folklore. As far as I know South African citizens enter free - no visa required (last I was there - I am no longer resident in Namibia). Get travel insurance that will cover a private hospital or clinic (if you may need it)!!!! ⚠ South Africa has one good thing that Namibia does not have - the road back to Namibia.😇

Hey Guys, The Namibia Guide is so good. We hope to plan another trip in the future. So comprehensive is this guide. You didn't miss anything. You do all your guides so well and our go to for guides. If you are familiar with Rick Steves Travel Guides, who is a icon in the travel world. You would do him proud. Thank you so much for great tips. Sending you love from Richmond

We booked a 3-week trip through Viatu. They are awesome. Very helpful. We worked with Mardi. Tickets from the States are not cheap!

Got this suggested in my feed because I watched and liked your Greek videos. (Our family is really psyched up now, and on the verge of booking for next year. In particular, you inspired us that a Greek holiday is possible coming from a weak currency country).

However, since I’ve been to Namibia a few times and loving it, I have to commend this video as well. As well as the country, Namibia. Given the challenges you expect from such a vast country with relatively few people scattered over it, it is relatively easy country to travel in.

Interestingly, many of the things South Africa is known for, are even more pronounced in Namibia. The food you mention, cultural past times like braai, wide open spaces, sunny climate, the ubiquity of the Afrikaans language in interactions amongst locals. And Springboks which is South Africa’s national animal, but it is in Namibia where you’ll see lot’s of them.

Thanks. I agree it is an incredibly underrated country.

Hi! Do you really need the international license for renting a car? Or with the English translation and my home country will do? I’m from Mexico, thanks for all the tips!

You two are really smart to be doing this at your age. I started full-time travel at 41, and it has been going on for over a year now. They say solo travel is lonely, and that is true, but I have no plans to go back now. You should go to Cornwall in the UK as it is such a beautiful place. Just don't go to London as it is very expensive and kind of a waste.

Interesting, helpful presentation! However, though mostly there is no or very low risk, unfortunately Namibia is NOT completely malaria free - especially so during the rain season. When it comes to high alcohol consumption, NAM ranks amongst the top 10 in the world - #5 in Africa.
