I recently had the chance to test TDW's upcoming mod - Roadbuilder. In this video, I'll take it for a spin and build a few roads that pop into my head. The mod will be released on August 9th!

TDW worked on this project in collaboration with Trejak and Bad Peanut. If you'd like to support them, you can do so here:

As a reminder, this mod will be released on August 9th!

Seriously, if the game developers are smart, they will offer to buy this mod from the creators. This is so well done, probably the most well done user friendly mod ive seen. So slip them a fat pile of cash and offer to hire them as well. This mod being in the base game, would be a win for everyone.

We had some amazing road tools before in city builders, but this hands down blows them all out of the water and it's not even done yet.

Here's one of the big takeaways, I think: assuming that the Road Builder Mod is ONLY creating new roads from the pieces available and not actually changing any other underlying code...this always would have worked. Colossal Order have done something almost 100% right, because all these modular pieces were just waiting for ways to put them together without needing a separate mod for each road type, and they all just work when you build the networks.

We've spent a lot of time criticizing CO the last 9 months since launch. But this? They got this right, and if they didn't include the actual road-builder capability in the base game, they made it possible for one to work!

If this mod doesn't rewrite code then this just goes to show how good cities 2 is made code wise to allow something like this to exist. This wouldn't even be possible as a dlc in a normal game, but we got it as a free mod which is insane

After watching this I really cannot WAIT to get my hands on using this. The economy 2.0 patch and the detailer patch already somewhat reignited my want to play this game, and this mod has been turning it into a massive campfire. I can see so much potential and plans with this, such as compact diverging diamonds, two lane avenues, of course most of the roads you made in this video, and even some more asymmetrical roads that I've been needing for some intersections for a while now.

So in theory we can have street running trains (train tracks in the middle of the street). It would be cool to have something similar to La Grange, KY. Where freight trains roll down Main Street. Can add to the history of the town being a railroad town, or indicating that the railroad has long since been established before roads were paved.

As an armchair urban planner, this gave me goosebumps. Being a Chicago native, I've always tried to build the rail between the highway in all of my builds, and this will make it so much easier. Such a ground-breaking mod -- literally removes the need for custom road assets since you can make basically anything you want! The UI is so easy, and it looks like everything just works! Not to mention, Paradox built the game in a way to make mods like this possible, so props to them, too. I can't wait to add this to my new build, perfect timing! Thanks for the great overview as always, and I can't wait to give this one a try.

One thing I can see being needed thanks to the power of this mod is crosswalk control. For example lets say you want to have a crosswalk only to the tram island from the tram side of the road only but not have the crosswalk extend to the other side of the road. I think all the amazing roads that this mod is going to allow is going to necessitate finer control over crosswalks.

Also agree on the assets part specifically things like being able to have grass under the tram tacks would be amazing.

Excited to experiment with this. First thing to make is a residential road that I’m sure plenty of people are used to. The alley upgraded with side walks, no parking and no traffic lines.

23:07 Imagine walking on the sidewalk all distracted when suddenly a train runs you over lmao! Loving this mod already! :D

This is an absolute game-changer and should be in the base game! They would still have a bunch of standard roads so people didn't need to get this in-depth if they didn't want to, but having this for people who really want to dive deep into customising and detailing is amazing and doesn't require CO to add new road types/combos in the future.

I just wish plots could have this sort of flexibility and were more procedurally generated - such as generating a hedgerow or fence around the edge of a plots boundary and spawning house/garage/ garden furniture depending on size and level, etc.

So... did CS2 just became the best city builder in gaming history with this? i think it did

I love how this mod is basically Network Extensions but a DIY version that allows for more modularity.

This in literally a game-changer ! Such tools allow us to play with different urban layouts, which makes cities much more realistic. I wanted to create a more walkable city, but just didn't like the fact that we only had one pedestrian road, which is so wide. Thank you !

Road Builder in CS1 was great, but you had to create your desired road in external app first, then you needed to go to Asset Editor and load it there and after this whole process you could use your roads in game. CS2's solution is much, much better in my humble opinion. Great job, TWD and team. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Train tracks on a road?! I want CS2 and this mod more than ever, I've always wanted to recreate something like La Grange, Kentucky where there are tracks going down the middle of Main Street in their historic downtown

I found Phil's maniacal laughter as he released years of pent-up anarchy usage quite healing.

Totally nuts! I love it. Imagine when we have bikes too. Looking forward to making some crazy Dutch style streets with: bike, road, tram, tram, road, bike lanes or seperated bike roads. Perhaps we can now also do really narrow European style old alleyways and pedestrian city centres. So cool!
