@NickSkate7 can you define some specific ad hominem attacks BR have made in their lyrics?

looking at it from a songwriting perspective, i'm sure there was a specific person or event that drove greg to write this. greg is very good at calling people out subtly and indirectly

@chillyrooster Still it doesn't matter who came up with it. The fact is, they use it..

@chillyrooster Well in interviews they say that it was something good that they came up with when they first started the band. But, even if you're correct and they took it from the Jews, it doesn't change that they use the symbol and they know the affect it gets. But hey its just music and even know as a Christian I disagree with a lot of there views, i understand they're free to express there views just as I am. I was just saying its ironic how they write a song about AdHominem but use it to

Isn't it a little ironic Graffin writes a song about ad hominem, when im sure he uses the fallacy all the time? After the symbol for BR is a crossbuster...

@BasementHaxxProd Graffin commented on the crossbuster during some random interview a long time ago (probably was around 1990)

He expressed slight regret that the crossbuster became so iconic. He said it was an accurate portrayl of the bands view of christianity, but he wished that the defining symbol had not been so pointed directly at ONLY christians, since they shared the same sentiment against ALL organized beliefs and religions.

@NickSkate7 You say "you are sure" but you don't provide evidence, which doesn't make your argument very strong either.

It completely depends on the reasoning behind the crossbuster. It may very well be a reaction to the Evangelicals so prominent during the late 70s, making it an Ad Hominem argument. On the other hand, it could have to do with the religion itself, meaning that it would be a valid argument.

Knowing Graffin (who's studied evolutionary biology), it is probably the latter.

@BasementHaxxProd Yea we could go back and fourth on this all day, but without actually having an intellectual debate on religion and Christianity with Graffin first hand, it would i guess be impossible to know for sure. It just seems unlikely that he has "never" used Ad Hominem being the anti religious figure he is. Not all of his songs on religion are arguments especially in his early years, some just have attacks. HoweverGraffin is a good musician i just simply disagree with him sometimes.
