Agricultural planner here, no-till is the future of ag. I am so happy to see you promote soil health principles here. While other hacks are trying to get people to buy extra implements, machinery, etc. Jeff is here just trying to show Poole how to do it with minimal effort

Jeff .you reach and have incouraged a lot of the little guys, that you don't need $100.000.00 worth of equipment to put out a food plot..
If I remember correctly, that's how you got your start .
Love and appreciate your channel

Interesting and timely, Thank you for posting. Our middle Georgia "food plots" are mostly pine rows and logging heads, will this method works for us?

Hi Jeff...LOVE your videos! Thanks!
I've tried to use buckwheat many times, but it NEVER gets as big as you show here. The deer nibble it down to nothing every year. Recommendations? I'd like to do as you show with no till, but it never comes up enough to push it down.

Jeff's no-till method is great and I have been using it for years. HOWEVER, in hilly country, erosion is a serious concern when putting in food plots. If the goal is to create no weeds for best seed-to-soil contact when broadcasting, it makes the soil very susceptible to significant erosion during heavy rain events prior to buckwheat "locking" in the soil. I know Jeff's land isn't flat as I have been there for a Habitat event, so curious what is being done about water erosion and wished I would've asked while there.

I have some ground we cleared for a food plot recently. We took out all the trees and the brush to make it, but now I have bare soil and weeds growing in. I’d like to plant buckwheat in June, but what should I do before I plant buckwheat to prevent erosion and prevent weed growth

I remeber that you use to plant into the Buckwheat then crimp and spray. Now you are seeding after you crimp and spray. Why did you change the way you do this process?

No till is the way to go.The farmer that plants my fields rotates between beans and corn every year.Never touches the soil. And they come up great.

if we plant fall plots around sept 15 - sept 30 when would you time the buckwheat planting? Also what initial ground prep is needed?

He said the old roots are nitrogen pockets.Makes sense to me👌

Noone should have to live where a frost can happen on the Fourth of July. Especially in America. 😂

I plan on planting 4 new plots in fields that have never been crop. They’ve been hay fields the past 20 years. So should I spray 2, 4, D and gly at spring green up then again in 6 weeks? Then plant in late may? Or is that too late to plant buckwheat?

Could I plant Buck wheat in the spring and then come fall just smash it down with a disc and broadcast winter wheat into it without spraying the buckwheat?

I did this for the first time last year. Brassicas came in great. Do I need to alternate to another fall crop? If so what blend?

This is my first year doing food plots. Plan on planting fall brassicas. Do you suggest the buckwheat no till method for establishing a new plot? Thanks

Do you recommend down south? Last summer extreme heat and drought killed my stand.

is there a way to no till and not use chemicals?

Would you still do a no till buckwheat when you're dealing with thick thick grass clumps or world you recommend trying to get all grass out first? To my knowledge this field has NEVER been tilled
