Again a well made and entertaining video. Nice that you teamed up for the Septandy collaboration. I didn't know the Tandy's where sold in Europe. Never seen one here in the Netherlands...

The 1000TL can be expanded to 768K of RAM so that the onboard video doesn't share any of the system RAM. Use SETUPTL /A for Advanced options. And did you try low-level formatting that MFM hard drive?

been using those compact flash to IDE adapters for a while and they are great! As much as i like the sound of the old hard drive, they will fail one day

9v on the 12V rail is normal for a power supply of the era when there is no actual load. If you hooked up a hard drive or something, the voltage should show closer to 12v.

Belgium(Brussels) has a Godiva (chocolate) shop downtown! Right near the former Metropole Hotel (Circa 1984)

For anybody trying to use 1.44MB disks formatted as 720KB disks, my advice is to format them at 1.44MB first and confirm that there are no bad sectors, then tape over the hole and format them in the destination system before copying data to them. I know that 1.44MB drives can technically format at 1.44MB disk at 720KB, but I've never gotten good results that way.

Great Video! I've never seen a Tandy in Sweden unfortunately, don't think they where ever sold here.

The TL was produced by Panasonic, the OEM version being the Panasonic Small Business System.

Hmm, I recalled that it is not even necessary to block the hole on a disk but just to format it as DD, especially if the drive don't support HD. On the other hand recalling HD disks formatted into DD tend to become unstable more easily than real DD floppies. Memory is like those old hard drives though - there tend to come faults after all those years. Unfortunately I don't currently have any working PC with a 3.5" 720k drive, so can't check either. Unless if the Tandy drive behaves somehow different.

I had a Tandy 1000 TL/2 as a kid, do you know if running DosBox in Tandy mode a reasonable way to replicate that experience?

I'm confused. According to my TRS-80 catalogs, the 1000TL was a 80286 box? But your SL there only has 8-bit ISA slots.
Later: Ah, i looked at the fineprint in the TRS80 catalog, and it says it only has 8-bit slots. I guess it makes sense now. Sort of.

we need those analog knobs back on monitors. at least for sound settings on monitors (with 3.5mm outputs)

I loved the fact that you actually attempted to use a standard MFM hard drive. I had one of these with an integrated Hard Card. By the time this computer was manfactured SCSI was in regular use. Is there a reason why you couldn't use a SCSI-1 hard drive and controller?

Have you tried to low level format the drive before ? You need a software or most cards have an integrated formater that you can use.

Nice video! Do you know by any chance which 286 motherboard is compatible with my 286 25MHz cpu? The “Harris”.

seems like some of their design ideas were ahead of ibm.

How much did you pay for it? I find it hard finding anything Tandy for a decent price in Europe.
