Jim Messina got his start with Buffalo Springfield, where Neil Young, Steven Stills and Richie Furay first made their mark. Ton of great songs.

Jimmy Messina is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock. I tell all of my students ( I' m a guitar teacher) to check him out. Always tasteful and never too stupid fast.

IMHO, as a bassist, THAT is how a bass should sound, and perform. Keep the groove together, no matter what everybody else is doing, no unnecessary notes, and smooth as silk. (Clean, no distortion) :)

Haven't heard this song in literally DECADES. Awesome!

This is my "back in the day". 1972 was the release time. This performance was 40 years later in 2012. The audience wasn't born yet...in fact their parents weren't born either. Ha-ha!!!

That bass line gives me chills, brother. A very underrated L&M song but superior performance. And that sax player gave ya' the stank face, Jamal!

Please consider Dan Fogelberg's "Leader of the Band" a great tribute song to the singer's father who was a high school band teacher in my area.

I saw them in '77 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The 1st act was The Amazing Rhythm Aces, the opening act for Loggins and Messina was Fleetwood Mac just after the White Album was released. They blew the roof off the place and got TWO standing ovations and encores! The Loggins and Messina came on and wow... just wow! One of the most memorable musical experiences on my life.

I will never forget the performance of this song I saw live at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand on August 19, 1973. It was every bit as good as this performance....maybe even better. This song has always been in my top10 all time favorite jam. Playing it on the drums is a little fun too.

This is the first song on my playlist, and I listen every day...at least once. Like you said, a fantastic arrangement, super sound mix, and everyone gets their time in the sun. Thanks for listening and making this known to others who might not otherwise have bothered.

I honestly don’t think I have watched a single one of your videos that I haven’t thumbed up. Keep it up brother!

I am nearly 66yr old. I used to listen to this in H.S. to go to sleep at night on the LP album. Vocals are as good as back then, but musically this version is GOLD....

Jamel - I just found you in the last few days. I was watching reactions to Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody and then started through your catalog. Weird Al was where we really connected. I am 71 years old and Al runs a real close race with The Beatles as my top music favorite. I first heard Al on the Doctor Demento Show at midnight Saturday nights in the early eighties. I had been a Dr. D fan for years before that. The first time I saw Al was at the California State Fair in Sacramento (1985?), he was the opening act for The Monkeys. Well, time goes on. I have been to six concerts in the last six years. I only wish I had been following along while you were doing his reviews. I would have liked to answer your questions in real time.
