Danny's drumsticks look like hummingbird wings in his hands. ✌️

Danny is known as “the octopus” for a reason. You just witnessed a genius at work. Fun fact, Danny played drums on some of Carol King’s work before Tool. He’s one of the best to ever sit behind a kit, right up there with Neil Peart (RIP) from Rush. I’ve seen Tool live a half dozen times, and it was mind blowing every time.

It's not often that we get to witness geniuses.

I'm so, so grateful that I got to see Tool play last fall, and to play Pneuma.

My favorite part is when Danny smiles knowing that he killed it.

Let us not forget Danny was 59 years old here!! More Tool soon please, love your reaction/insight on their music. Pure genius level musicians plain and simple!

2:10 - No clicks. It's for the Mandala drums, you can see the "Mandala v.3" text on the front panel.
And mandala drums are those electric pad's he's using (the one's with the star on them). They have 255 individually programmable zones.. Crazy things. :)

** EDIT **
Not idividually programmable ZONES, but 128 detection rings and 127 levels of velocity sensitivity.

Tool should be required listening/viewing for every musician even if they don't like Tool. They are the perfect example of a band that listens to each other and not a click track, backing tracks etc. If you watch carefully, you will see how Danny reacts to what is happening with either the guitar or bass part in various sections of this piece. The other members are listening to Danny. There is a part where he hits the snare twice in a section and the bass/guitar immediately transition into the next part of the song. When watching them you will see the winks and nods between all of them for the musical queues to structure the journey they take you on.

Reactors: "Nice layering on the precision in the mix!"

Danny: "What's Layering? "

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone found out Danny was an alien from another galaxy.

No clicks, no backing tracks. It's all Danny

Alot of people react to Sober (live) which shows the band when they were alot younger & Maynard's amazing vocals & theatrics which really raises the song to another level

Danny Carey "We were actually playing live. It's a sad thing when almost every band you see isn't playing doing that, it's the clicks and backing tracks that are keeping time. I've never played to a click on stage in my life..."

Great reaction. That electronic pad at the beginning is called a Mandala pad.

Three Aliens and an Octopus walk onto the stage....and then there was TOOL

Those are mandala electronic pads. You were right. You can have any sound you want, 3 different sounds per pad that you can preprogram and change with the touch of a button.

I’d like to see a brain scan on Danny during the center part… then a brain scan on literally any other drummer playing any other song
