Ahhh my beautiful campus... I miss my UM days... c/o 97.... its much harder to get in these days I hear. When I got into UM in 92' I had a 820 SAT combined score and a 3.4 weighted gpa 3.13 un-weighted. Thank God I got in when I did. I hear you need crazy SAT's and GPA's now. I was very lucky. My Recommendations were very strong and I was very active in the extra carriculars at my high school. I remember I was admitted into a special program that made the kids with lower SAT's and GPA's (but showed promise) have to attend one of the summer sessions and take freshman english and an elective or you can take english and math. It was great so when school started, i was done with the first semester of English and Math since that was all i did in the summer and i got A's in both because there were only 16 of us in the program. We got a lot of one on one time with the professor and the TA's... and they made it so much fun. I don't know if they offer that program anymore but it was the best thing for me because if it weren't for that, I would have never gotten in. Once the semester started, our group was a head of the rest of the kids coming in for the first time because we were at UM all summer. The thing is, if you don't pass both courses; you will be asked to not join us in the fall. I don't remember anyone that did not coming back because we all work so hard to stay in. once the summer was over, we were all full fledged UM students. The school always kept track of us through out the years and every now and again to check on us and see how we were doing but for the most part, we all were fully fledged UM students. UM Baby!!!! I hope this helps. Never herts to ask if a program like this is still in place. Its not just for athletes, African American Students, Latino or White students. there were kids from all backgrounds in our program. It was the most fun. Good luck next generation. Keeping you in my prayers... Cause all the stories you have heard about the U are true. You will have the most fun you will ever have at a University. and my degree from UM opens doors for me everyday. every job I have ever gotten was because they were impressed with the fact that i went to the U.
