The Dragon Prince is a new epic fantasy show on Netflix, and the first project from entertainment startup, Wonderstorm. The series follows two young princes and an elven assassin on their journey to Xadia, a magical land where they must venture to return a glowing egg, the egg of the Dragon Prince.

Long ago, Xadia was one land, rich in magic and wonder. In the old times, there were only the six primal sources of magic: the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth, the sky, and the ocean. But, a thousand years ago, a human mage discovered new magic: the seventh source, dark magic. It used the essence within magical creatures themselves to unleash dark power.

Horrified by what they saw, the elves and the dragons put a stop to the madness. They drove every last human to the west, and so, the continent was divided in two. In the east, the magical lands of Xadia, and in the west, the human kingdoms. For centuries, the king of the dragons himself defended the border. The humans called him Thunder, for when he spoke, his voice shook the earth and the sky. But, on the eve of last winter's turn, the humans used unspeakable dark magic to slay Thunder. Then, without mercy, they destroyed his only egg, his heir, the Dragon Prince. Now the world stands on the edge of all out war...

I love how everyone is rushing back to this video to confirm that the narrator is Aaravos.
Edit: *whoa*

Three minutes, and they summarize their entire magic system, the rivalry between elves and humans, and the entire backstory behind the “dragon prince”. That’s some amazing storytelling right there!

Long ago, the 6 sources of Magic lived in Harmony. But everything changed when the Dark Magic Nation attacked. Only the Dragon King, Thunder, who possessed the power to shock both Earth and Sky could stop them, but when the World needed him the most, he vanished. Years would pass, until I, Callum and my younger Half-brother Ezran with the A Moonshadow Elf named Ralya would discover the heir of the late Dragon King, the Egg of the Dragon Prince. Although he is just inside a glowing Egg and doesn't do much other than living from the umbilical cord. I believe the Dragon Prince can save the World.

I'm glad to see that the show makers didn't blame everything on one side.
On the one hand it is understandable that the dragons and elves consider use of dark magic terrifying, and it was invented by and is exclusively used by humans.
On the other hand banishing the ENTIRE human population of the eastern half of the continent is a massive overreaction.
Killing the Dragon King is horrifying, but how many humans had he himself killed?

this is the best show i've seen in YEARS
the animation gets better in the later episodes, some great characters are introduced halfway through, the mysteries are intriguing, the body language of the characters and fantastic, it's aimed a younger audience but there's enough jokes and interactions for adults to giggle about. the official accounts are hilarious, there's never a shortage of memes on their twitter or tumblr, it's great
without spoiling anything: every character is interesting and funny in their own way, the music and scenery are great, and you can fight with your friends over what type of magical elf you would be if you were in that universe.

Tbh the fist time i listened to this i thought 'ah yes greedy humans again' BUT as the show went on i grew more and more suspicious. After S3 though i think i have a few more answers.

Humans weren't just 'greedy', they were thought of as 'lesser beings' because they couldn't do magic. And the 'scary mage' in the beginning took down the dragon because he was going to destroy an entire city as a power move.

Humans weren't greedy.
They were desperate.

"A human mage discovered new magic: The seventh source."

*And who told him about that? That staff has a peculiar, yet familiar design to it.*

I love how it says 'the humans' destroyed thunder and the dragon prince, but it was really just Viren, one guy.

The depth of the voice of Aaravos is extremely charismatic and phenomenal.. Every time I watch the monologue I get goosebumps ✨

I love how this intro is framed, especially now with what we know from season 3. We know now that Ziard is performing dark magic to try and save a town of innocent people, and that Thunder—Avizandum—was killed by Viren and Harrow on a loan mission. They aren’t lying to us here, but presenting things in ways to draw us to certain conclusions. We’re never told that this battle is the one that killed Thunder, it’s more implied. In reality, this was a battle that happened years before the show started, perhaps ordered by one of Harrow’s ancestors. I love this show

The best thing this show has is its continuity seriously i have never seen a show treat their continuity so well literally no detail is too small and every detail makes an impact in another episode one way or another i am genuinely happy they decided to do this God i love this show ❤️

Water, earth, fire, air.

Long ago the four nations lived together in harmony, then everything changed when the fire nation attacked.
Only the Avatar, master of all four elements could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.
A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang, and while his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone.
But I believe Aang can save the world.

Oh wait, shit, wrong show.

ok just a few things : (spoilers)
1- the narrator is clearly Aaravos (and is he the guy at 1:51 ?)
2- is the dragon at 0:26 the same dragon we see at the end of season 2 ?
3- I just noticed that Viren has the staff of the guy who discovered black magic
4- those white hairs are absolutely just like the ones Claudia got at the end

This intro is hillarious with the extra context from the recent season, a whole bunch of small details are known and basicslly recontextulizes the whole thing.
