The USS Seawolf is one of the most advanced hunter-killer submarines in the water, and there has been a rare sighting of it in Japan. On Oct. 4, the nuclear-powered submarine surfaced in the waters near Yokosuka, a city located at the mouth of Tokyo Bay —basically in China’s backyard.

Basically, it was a reminder that US subs that can do a lot of mischief was on and around Chinese waters, and they likely had no idea where they were.

…you too can be the proud owner of a Seawolf Class nuclear submarine for only 3 billion dollars! (Prices may vary, not including sate and local taxes or weapons and ammunition, see dealer for details.)

I think it's a message.
"Hi! Are we making you nervous? 😁
Hey I can see Taiwan from here!" lol

You forgot to mention its current and most important duties. It is a test bed for advanced (even to US standards) equipment & systems. If you need to know if something will work against the Chinese, you figure that out by going amongst the Chinese and recording their reaction...or lack thereof.

Always appreciate these little military tidbits and updates. Our subs are definitely doing a lot better than China's subs that sink in dock, and especially better than ruzzia's ships turned into subs.

FYI, Sir, the location is pronounced Yo-KO-su-ka

It is not uncommon for US fast Attack subs to make port calls in Yokosuka.

The Silent Service has basically gone into anyone's back yard undetected since the beginning of the Cold 👍

Yokosuka has been the US's largest Western Pacific Naval base since the end of WW2. Prior to that it was Japan's main Naval base. The US Navy leases it. It is noteworthy as one of the few foreign bases that support nuclear vessels. ANd it typically is the Home Port for a Nimitz class carrier. It was USS Ronald Reagan for many years, but I think it has been swapped out for a maintenance cycle. It also homeports the 2 American Class LHA's. USS America and Tripoli. The ones that carry a full squadron of F-35's instead of the Amphibious well deck. Making them basically Light Carriers. It's not that unusual for a US Attack Sub to arrive at Yokosuka. Although sighting a Seawolf class is rare as there are only 3. 2 regular ones, Seawolf and Connecticut (which had been based out of Yokosuka until she hit and underwater mountain and smashed her bow and sonar dome in. She'll be awhile more in the repair yards) and one specially modified Seawolf Class USS Jimmy Carter. WHich has an extended hull and all kinds of special gear and hatches to launch underwater ROV's and drones and carry a full compliment of Seals when needed. That's the one you never ever see. It is incredibly rare to ever see a US Balistic Missile Sub. Seeing an attack sub isn't that unusual.

This is not news. We pulled into Yokosuka all the time when I was in the navy. There’s a US naval base there, it’s not “in China’s back yard”. US submarines operate in this region constantly.

LOL ... hey CCP, ... the whole world knows, thought you would like to be informed, in case you missed this sub.
