Let's be really honest here. The 2023 Volkswagen Taos is not the worst option on the market today, but it’s definitely not even close to being a top pick, at least not for me. When I initially entered the Taos, I had some fairly decent first impressions of it — I liked how it had a bunch of physical buttons, for example — but the more I drove it, the less I liked the SUV as a whole. It's also a bit pricier than its competitors.
That said, there are certain aspects about this vehicle that might make it a really good first car for a new driver — especially in the base trim which is quite a bit cheaper than the top trim, which isn’t even all that top-ish.
