We've all seen it before, the bane of any vintage LEGO collector's existence: sun-damaged, yellowed parts. This affliction can totally ruin white, light grey, and blue LEGO bricks, but fortunately there's an easy way to reverse the process. In this video, I tested one of the tried-and-true methods of restoring yellowed bricks, and and the results amazed me!

i love the way you did this. It's educational without being boring and you pointed out safety cautions for younger viewers. Great VID!

This is incredibly helpful and informative! And I appreciate the disclaimer at the beginning about chemical safety. 😎

Would this work with a UV lamp also, instead of the sun?

This trick is called retrobright in the vintage computer scene, but it turns out to make the already damaged plastic even more brittle and the yellowing seems to come back after a while. I have a large bag full of “Pat. Pend.” Lego, maybe I’ll give it a try…

I leave mine white pieces for two days both outside and inside also make sure to place clear tape on any of the printed parts of the piece because HP will make the color fade. It faded the 90's white horse a few slopes with computer prints.

It's the uv rays that the sun provides that reacts with the peroxide. You can do the same thing by putting them into a bin and completely covering the sides outside of the bin with foil put a clear lid over the bin and set a uv light on top and it will whiten the yellowed legos.

Hey dude, great video!!!
Do you apply anything after this technique, to keep them white longer ? Like some product to seal / cover the bricks? People says they oxidize / get yellow again in a few months.

Great to know! I have a Mini Cooper set that I got from my sister inlaw and a lot of the white bricks are yellowed. This should work wonders.

Brasso or Silvo work great to remove scratches and restoring glossy parts including transparent pieces, just don’t use it on textured slope pieces and things that have that grainy texture because it will make them shiny

Any changes in texture, clutch or brittleness?
How are you storing the bricks now?
Have you observed any significant short term changes? Do the bricks turn yellow again after a short while?

hello, will this affect other colors like pink or purple bricks? mines built already and its a pain to remove everything 😭🙏

I have been using this chemical for over a year now and the Lego bricks may become brittle and you need to add extra care when building those. I observed that those cleaned bricks even placed inside the house will turn to yellowish again after few months.

Video was 1 year ago. Are the bricks still white ? Does it work for long time or are they yellow again ?
