The BEST CPAP Side Sleeper Masks | Sleeping on Side with CPAP

Best masks for CPAP Side Sleepers. My top picks are the ResMed N20 and P30i, Philips DreamWear Nasal Cradle and the Fisher and Paykel Vitera.

When choosing a CPAP mask for side sleeping, consider the following factors:

Comfort and Fit: The mask should fit snugly without being too tight, and it should feel comfortable when lying on your side.

Mask Seal: It’s important that the mask maintains a good seal against your face to prevent air leaks, which can compromise the effectiveness of the therapy.

Adjustability: Look for masks with adjustable straps to ensure a secure fit that can accommodate movement during sleep.

Hose Positioning: Consider where the hose attaches to the mask. Some masks are designed with top-of-head hose connections that can be more comfortable and less intrusive for side sleepers.

I have the Vitera full face mask and it is perfect for me. I may have to adjust just a bit on my side but it is easy to do just moving my head a bit.

I have 1 1/2 years CPAP experience. Full face either hurt my nasal bridge or leaked excessively. Nasal pillows felt like sandpaper in my nares. Nasal masks require mouth tape, which I now use with great success. I put on 3 strips of 3M waterproof at bedtime; then my N20 and no worries on back or side. Some adjustment needed around 3AM due to mild leak from settling of the foam pillow, but otherwise I sleep 7 hours per night with scores >95. This recipe has worked for the last 6 months; no problems. Good luck!

For me as a side sleeper I really like Airtouch F20 for her. The air leakage is extremely minimal I’m getting a much better nights sleep. I’ve tried nasal pillows and under the nose cradle did not work for me. IMO cpap masks are a little absurd but are much needed
I can only hope that in the future they will come up with a better design for us CPAPer

I’m a side sleeper and have been using the P-10 nasal pillow mask for over 6 years with zero issues. Side sleepers do not roll their faces into the pillow. I feel a little confined when I have worn a mask that covers my nose.

I am a lifelong side sleeper, and I 100% agree that the N20 is the most comfortable mask available.

I'm a side sleeper and have just started pap therapy. I'm using the F20 and for me it works fine. I haven't felt this good in a long time.

I took your recommendation after avoiding a full face and try the Vitera and I love it. I’m a size sleeper and it’s my favorite. I have tried the pillows and the hybrid and the nasal and the Vitera is just the best. Thank you for your videos.

Long-time CPAP user here. Side sleeper. My pick is the Respironics DreamWear Mask. I used to use the cradle style cushions, but now use the silicone pillows. It keeps a better seal.
I can't stand the masks with the hose attachment at your nose. Feels like being led around by the nose, quite literally.
The DreamWear mask allows me to briefly wear my glasses, as I like to read, maybe watch some TV, or play solitaire on a tablet. As I relax a bit, in bed, before getting serious about falling asleep.
Good video, BTW.

I have a P30i for use at home and love it. I cannot use it with my travel CPAP, however because of those air tubes right in front of my ears. I use a front hose Swift FX for travel.

Regarding the Vitara mask, I have it's predecessor the Simplus, I am a back and side sleeper, I'm forced to use a full face mask due to mouth leaks and jam drop syndrome, (had give up my Resmed N20), love this mask, score 100% every night on Resmed "my Air". I see the improvements on the Vitara so that will be my
next full face mask.

Side sleeper only here. I have used the ResMed F30i the entire time I’ve been on PAP therapy. I am a mouth breather so have to do full face and LOVE the F30i.

Thank You So Much for putting out such a comprehensive video!
Regarding the Resmed N20 nasal mask, the fit for me has been hit and miss. Half of the time I can get the fit correct with new head gear, the other half of the time, it leaks a lot and I really have to tighten the straps to keep it quiet during the night. Some of the head gear fits perfect but when I change them out with a new one, I have had the masks leak everywhere from the bridge of the nose toward my eyes and down along the sides and the bottom regardless of how much I change the adjustments. The Resmed P30i looks very interesting and I am a side sleeper and I think I am going to talk to my doctor about trying that. Cheers!

My problem with my sinus cushion (P30i) is that as a side sleeper, the exhaust air blasts me in the eyes and makes for a frequently puffy face in the morning. So your top picks help prevent this?

0:28 I only had 2 type of nasal masks. The first one I was given after testing which similar to the ResMed P10 was the Philips Respironics Nuance Pro. From which I can tell the only difference besides the Nasal Pillows which has a Gel that makes it super comfortable. The other difference is the gel pads on the cheek straps which also makes it super comfortable. Because at night it is so cooling & sweat less. I wish all mask had the Gel.
* Also the Philips Respironics Nuance Pro had a strap at the top so the hose points upward & stays at the top of the head so you can sleep in any position side or on back.
He is Right unless you strapped it very tight the Nasal Pillows can come out but with it tight it will feel uncomfortable.
So theoretically the Philips Respironics Nuance Pro you can sleep in any position but in reality occasionally can slip out.
But it was the most comfortable mask, very simple & easy to use plus less time consuming.

4:19 The second one was the ResMed N20 (AirFit), seen in this video. It is good for side sleeping but requires a lot adjusting and a lot of time adjusting. And constant adjustments from time to time.

So being a side sleeper and using this one required a lot of patience to adjust, to figure out the right fitting for the Nasal Pillow.
Because as I moved my head from side to side and it touched the "Head Pillow" on each side of the Nasal Pillows the right or the left side will either leak from the top right blowing into my eye or the top left blowing into my eye; or through the bottom right or bottom left fittings.
So you have to adjust the straps on the upper left and the upper right or the lower left and the lower right each time to see if there are air leaks, which takes a lot of time and patience to figure out. (Also, because you have to make adjustments to see, to make sure it's not too tight or too loose.)
Because if you don't and it's too tight it will feel uncomfortable or if it feels loose even though it's not leaking it will feel like it's about to come off.
With all these adjustments, it requires a lot of effort and time to make sure it is fitted right and comfortable.
But once it is it is good for side sleeping. May have to adjust once or twice a week to maintain comfort and to also prevent any air leakage.

* ResMed doesn't have cooling Gels so I would recommend the Nasal Pillow he mentioned the (AirTouch) for comfort, and based off this video it will be an easier time & less time adjusting & fitting.

It would be awesome if they had a hybrid where it was simplistic like the Philips Respironics Nuance Pro with Less effort & adjustments, plus having less time to put in. With the Nasal Pillow of the ResMed N20 (AirFit) except with cooling Gels in the Nasal Pillow. And also cooling straps or cooling gel cushion on the straps.

Thanks for a superb video and detailed explanations. Also appreciate the recommendations as they pertain to conditions and preferences. I just completed my sleep study where obstructive sleep apnea was diagnosed. This information will give me sufficient background as I meet with medical staff. You've presented a magnificent video!
