Pete Best plays this close to the Buddy Holly original. A decent job. The next year, in August 1963, the now-famous (in England, at this time) Beatles, with Ringo Starr, played this live on the BBC. But Ringo plays it simple. Just straight, with no fills. Or frills. Although history has proven Ringo to have been a far-better drummer for the demands of the sophisticated Beatles songs to come - and for the band's fun-loving chemistry, Pete was in no way this absolutely terrible drummer he has been made out to be.

That solo is chet atkins level gray.
George was such a great guitarist. He knew how to play to serve the song and tastefully fit In the track.

A nice cover by George Harrison for the Decca Records audition 1962. Pete Best on drums 🥁
This song shows George's ability to sing just as good as John and Paul. To include him as a 3rd strong singer in The Beatles.

There are lot of songs where Pete loses a beat, like in this one (he does it even in "his" version of "Love me do").
The high point in this version is George's guitar (there is no guitar solo on Buddy Holly's version), the "quiet one" was great!!!

Pete was a great drummer but was betrayed because the other 3 Beatles were terribly jealous of his enormous popularity with the fans and the press. Here's what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it. He'd drum like a dream with real style and stamina all night long, and that really was The Beatles' sound, forget the guitars. At their Decca audition, Pete had so much power that the engineers didn't know how to record him. That’s why so many Merseyside discs are icky, all thin and weedy, because so few engineers knew how to do it. I was amazed when The Beatles replaced Pete. I even thought about learning guitar so he could be the drummer in my band. John, Paul and George didn't hate Pete Best, but they didn't want to be outshone by their drummer. Ringo was a good drummer but he was more ordinary."* -- Chris Curtis, drummer for The Searchers, a great Liverpool band who scored a 1964 Top 3 Hit in the US charts with their classic, "Love Potion # 9". Chris saw Pete Best play many times in both Hamburg and Liverpool during Pete's two years as The Beatles' drummer.
