Heavy rain in Gaza poses threat for a humanitarian crisis

In the Gaza Strip, heavy rain has worsened the plight of many Palestinians, with over 1.7 million people displaced due to Israel's war on the besieged coastal enclave.

The start of the rainy season brought with it the threat of an overwhelmed sewage system and heightened disease risk, compounding existing challenges. The World Health Organization also reported substantial infrastructural damage and limited clean water access, leading to overcrowded shelters.

Recent figures show a surge in diarrhoeal diseases in Gaza, with more than 30,000 cases recorded, far exceeding the expected 2,000, highlighting the critical need for humanitarian assistance and a ceasefire.
