Coin Collectors: Don't Get Fooled by Fake Error Coins

I bought a coin collection a few months ago and discovered a very strange looking nickel. I never got around to researching it until just now. The results from investigating this coins were super interesting, so I wanted to make this video to tell you all about it and teach you some ways to avoid buying fake error coins. Enjoy!

I would have done an SG (Specific Gravity) test on the coin in order to determine composition.

I don't collect error coins but some of them are really nice. The problem is that a lot of people think that errors are worth thousands of dollars.

I have a large number of fake and counterfeit also copy coins I catalog them and use them to show (and tell) and to compare them to real ones I find it fascinating with some of the coins in that one would go to a lot of trouble to duplicate a coin with little value or to try and fool people rare coins I can almost understand one exception is the Henning nickels that I yet have to obtain

How timely is this information. I have been throwing old cents into bags for many years and this week I started going through them to check for errors. I am finding some that I just can't determine what is wrong so I have gone onto cointalk to see if anyone else has shown the same error. Thanks for sharing

My brother used to work in a Lithograph Plate manufacturing facility.
They worked with a lot of acid.
To pass the time they acid dipped coins.
One thing they observed is the acid ate away at the same rate for all angles. The thickness was taken down as much as the diameter was reduced. The lettering and features were also still plainly visible, just not as clear. Additionally, you can't get a Zincoln out of the acid fast enough to do a post 1982 penny.
In conclusion I even found a quarter with my metal detector I am sure got acidized at their plant.
