So refreshing to see Ben not be bullied into apologizing. Way to go Ben.

As a black person, I highly enjoyed Tropic Thunder. It pointed out how utterly stupid Hollywood can be when it comes to casting actors for parts. Robert Downey, Jr. wasn’t in black face. His character was. His character was a white Australian actor who thought he could portray a African-American Vietnam war veteran. And instead of just casting a black actor, they casted this academy award, winning white actor, who went under massive medical procedures in order to get a part. It was pure straight satire that was utterly brilliant.

The whole movie is satire about Hollywood. The character is not actually supposed to be black, he’s a pretentious method actor who is pretending to be black. There’s a part where Downy’s character says, “what do you mean you people?” and then an actual black character in the movie says “what do YOU mean, what do you mean you people?”. It’s gold. Most of the people going after it have probably never even seen the movie.

“I’m a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude” best line in the movie

People don’t realize that in the movie itself, the real black guy, Brandon T. Jackson, called out Robert Downey Jr IN THE MOVIE. The movie is incredibly self aware in calling out the stereotypes in Hollywood vs reality as the roles cast members play. It’s brilliant and should be celebrated more.

I like equality. ‘Tropic Thunder’ and ‘White Chicks’ should be equally untouchable. They are both masterpieces of their era.

"Just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude "he had a part to play and did it wonderfully

The other thing people forget is that RDJ wasn't portraying a black man, he was portraying a white guy playing a black guy representing the absurdity of most of what Hollywood puts out.

The whole blackface joke wasn’t even really about black people, it was about taking method acting to an inappropriate extreme.

Scream it from the rooftops! The blackface in Tropic Thunder is a play against Hollywood's inability to cast people for the right roles racially. This wasn't against Black people, it's actually for them.

"It's all about intent."
Very wise words.

He wasn’t even playing a black man. He was playing an actor who’s playing a black man.

It's not RDJ in blackface. It's RDJ playing an actor in blackface. He's layers deep in that role and does an amazing job.

Tropic thunder do not make fun of Black people. It's a parody of Hollywood itself.

There was a black actor literally calling the character out on everything he was saying. It was a brilliant movie and very well written.
