Becky you need to get the idea that the problem at the banks is the super low interest treasury portfolios accumulated over the last 15 years that still have extended maturity dates. All too far to cover the interest due in new deposits that require a higher rate for which there is no income to support. SVB has 237 billion in treasuries that have to be sold at a sharp discount under cost. The total of treasuries at very low rates is close the the sum of the national debt. Get real on the problem at banks. It is not their loan portfolio. It is demon treasuries they were told to buy with deposits.

The takeover of banks by other banks does not necessarily mean they will do well. First consideration is whether they can survive a liquidity crisis. If most depositors force a run on bank then it depends on how much cash is available for withdrawal. If not enough cash is available then there will be a sale of investment portfolio to meet cash needs. Second is the investment portfolio. Does management know how to pick investments to optimize profit and minimize unrealized losses due to interest changes like the fed raising interest rates? If liquidity and investments are not optimized then the bigger bank will fail.
