Homeless Numbers Reach Record High

The number of unsheltered people living in Downtown San Diego continues to grow.

One of the worst feelings in the world is to have no one nor no place to call home. To be thirsty, to be hungry, to be dirty, no where to sleep, jobless, no way out. It doesn't take anymore than one bad break at one bad time.

I’ve been traveling to San Diego for over 20 years to spend time out of the Arizona heat. Last July, I was there for my birthday. I was there for a week. The day after my birthday, I was walking in the Gaslamp area. It was 10:30 in the morning and a homeless guy attacked me. He hit my phone out of my hand and just kept telling “I want that phone”, over and over. As he was holding on to me I just kept swinging on him. Another man who was in the area, pulled this homeless guy off of me. He kept him away from me until the bike patrol arrived and the man who attacked me then went running up the street. The bike patrol followed after him. All I could do is thank the king gentleman who helped me. I kept thanking him over and over. Police showed up. They took me to identify a person that was stopped. It was the homeless man. This all happened in July 19, 2022. I had just turned 57. Thank goodness I did well keeping myself from getting hurt by this man. And I thank God Every say that the unknown man helped me. Homeless guy has court in August. The Judge found probable cause that he committed a feeling and he was held in custody. I got notification that he is now going through a competency hearing. It’s January 6 and he still is in jail. I have watched the homeless population grow tremendously over the hearts there. Now I’m a victim. It’s so frustrating that just a beautiful city has gone to trash.

About time America can realize that not all people who are homeless have a choice. Not all are on drugs, or don’t pay their bills. Greed is pushing more to the streets.

14 years ago Gavin newsome had a ten year plan to eliminate homelessness in San Francisco. We see how well that program worked. He also has a 90 billion surplus in the state budget. What has he done with it? He decided to buy votes with a five hundred dollar rebate. This state has three major problems at the moment. Electricity, water and homeless. What has he proposed to fix any one of those problems?

The increase in the rise in homelessness is directly related to the increased incompetence in city and county government. Not all homeless people are from San Diego. The rise in this population is because of they continue to throw money at the problem and people think that this is a great place to find free services. In 1996, they were offered a free bus ticket to where they came from. In Qatar for the World Cup, they had a shortage of hotel rooms for fans and rented cruise ships to provide temporary housing. Why not find a similar solution and create a shelter free from drugs, provide counseling, even jobs maintaining a self sufficient environment for people in transition. There are solutions, but no leadership in solving this problem. 🙏💪🌍🌏🌎❤️🇺🇸🖖

I make 3300 month and have been homeless for years. I do spend 1000 month on hotels and hostels. 5 nights week sleep in car. Rent is just too much and its going up 20% unless your income goes up 20% then you are screwed

The only time a city cleans up the city is when the Super Bowl is coming to their town, that's why Phoenix Az. started cleaning up last week and L.A did it last year.
