I am so proud of Cloe Kim our gold medal winner bringing home the gold medal for USA. She is from a Korean family. The implications of a 17yo girl spanning the ideas of home and peace to win a gold medal in her families native country is a huge step towards peace. I admire and respect her.

The islands are not claimed by both Korea and Japan. It was territory of Korea before Japan colonized Korea. And after WWII, Japan agreed to return all Korean territory. But after Japan knew that there are many resources under the island, they are arguig the island Dokdo as their territory. Japan wants to put the dispute into International Court of Justice because Japan is powerful in the organization. So actually there is Korean flag on the island and the island is guarded by Korea. And Japan argue that Korea illegally captured the island but Japan has nothing to do with the island.

Dokdo is Korean land. It had always been and always be Korean land. Japan has always been trying and still tries to chip away at Korean history, culture and land but they will not be successful. There is no debate whether Dokdo is Korean or Japanese.

I’m sorry but the Korean flag with part of the conquered China dynasty looks straight up like a T-Rex.

I'm a Korean born but an American citizen. Would love to see the unification, but will never happen unless the North's economic & political systems can be compatible to the South's .

It is still excellent that both North and South Koreans speak their Native Korean Language, and that they do understand one another be it North or South. Saranghamida.

I have a dream that Korea will stand as united regardless of politics and this brings me hope.

What a joke. One country and one prison. If they are so "united", then the NK athletes should get to have the same freedoms and enjoyment as the SK do.

The modern flag of the Republic of Korea was mostly developed from the original flag of the Korean Empire (1897-1910), the size of the elements were the ones that changed and the colors too. The Korean Empire flag developed elements from the flag of the Kingdom of Great Joseon (1392 - 1897)
