Star Wars: Heir to the Empire - The Original Sequel Trilogy (Legends Lore)

Before Disney bought Star Wars and Lucasfilm and started their own Sequel Trilogy, fans already thought of The Thrawn Trilogy as the Original Star Wars Sequels. Written by Timothy Zahn, these books were considered essential pieces of the Expanded Universe, now called Legends. They also introduced many characters and ideas that would become integral parts of Star Wars Lore, including Grand Admiral Thrawn, Mara Jade Skywalker, Coruscant, and many others. This is the story of the first book in the trilogy... Heir to the Empire.

Shout outs to my inability to pronounce "C'baoth"! LOL Hey, when you read these things growing up with no pronunciation guide, you sort of have to make it up as you go. ;)

The Thrawn Trilogy and Legends will always be my "Canon Event"

I think the thing that made Thrawn so compelling is that he strays from the typical, mystical villain of the star wars stories. He is Moriatry with no Sherlock, so everyone has to pull all then know together to defeat him. It makes him far more of a threat than someone who has power that you know the hero will eventually be able to attain and counter.

I will never understand why this wasn't the source material for the movie sequel trilogy.

Clearly, this deserves to be head canon.

These books got me into Star Wars back in 93 or 94.

Thrawn was the best villain of the Star Wars mythos, IMHO. No supernatural powers, just his intelligence... Takes the New Republic to the very edge. Excellent trilogy that should have been the only sequel.

R2-D2s parts in this would be so fun in a live action movie. Thrawn is such a interesting character. When he was in Rebels it was bittersweet, because he deserves a movie

Anyone else here after hearing “Heir to the Empire” and seeing Thrawn in the new Ashoka trailer?

The 90s were a great decade for Star Wars literature and comics. Heir to the Empire followed by Dark Empire were what we should’ve gotten in the sequel trilogy.

I like the fact that the main villain is not a force user

Clearly remember walking into Walden Books at the mall and seeing Heir to the Empire and having a complete flabbergast moment. This was wonderful and I'm so glad Zahn was kept in the look with the whole Asoka and Rebels thing. Too bad this wasn't the source material for the Sequel Trilogy of movies, which fell far short of what makes Star Wars great.

Tim created one of the best characters in all of Star Wars. Grand Admiral THRAWN deserves more.✌️🇺🇸

To anyone who hasn’t read/listened to these books they are FANTASTIC! They are everything the Disney sequels weren’t! There are so many great moments of our beloved main characters just being themselves together! I found myself smiling ear to ear so many times and they develop in ways that don’t betray their characters

He named the planet Coruscant, but it was already created by Lucas, it was just named with the placeholder “Imperial Planet “. He used a lot of info from the rpg source books, instead of meeting with Lucas constantly.
