That forklift protective front literally saved this guy’s life from getting spattered. This is actually insane

Props to the forklift for being able to protect him and keep working so he could drive away from the explosion

That was the most intended pun I've ever heard someone say "no pun intended" afterwards.

This forklift driver learned the lesson that your employer doesn’t give a shit about you.

I worked at a Ductile Foundry for 30 years. And you load the furnace from the top . Load the scrap iron from the Crane Bay onto a Shaker and feed the furnace.. Everyone on the Melt Deck is behind safety glass and in full PPE. But when wet iron gets feed to 2600 - 2700 degree molten iron, and it happens because you just don't know that H2O is trapped in some of the scrap. But you'll think that the Gates of Hell opened up.. Thank God that in my 30 plus years working there no one was killed that worked in the Melting Control Department. That was a great group of men in that Department.. Those guys had to have 110% trust in each other because it really was a matter of life and death back there. Hell, it was that way no matter what Department you worked in. I sure miss those guys and I still go to the Foundry from time to time and check in on the men.👍

Damn, he got lucky. Glad he was okay. And that he had a windshield.

He couldn't have known about the water. He followed instructions, wore PPE, and remained calm. That's what saves his life. Shit like this happens all the time.

The level tranquility is insane. He stayed in the forklift & put it in reverse.

I believe this was at the AISIN plant I was working at. They occasionally move the aluminum scrap outside to sort it being as there is limited space on the factory floor. It was cool that morning so moisture had built up on the aluminum. To combat this, we normally sit the aluminum near the furnace where it’s warm and the moisture would evaporate away in an hour or so. He didn’t leave it sitting long enough and dumped the aluminum into the 3# furnace which is the smaller one of the three we have. Driver was fine because of PPE and plexiglass surrounding the fork truck in the front.

I worked in an iron foundry in the early 2000's. The stuff you see in a place like that is eye opening. Shortly after I started, an old-timer was telling me about a wet charge went into the furnace. It was a top load furnace that held 27 tons of molten iron. It sent the furnace lid through the roof, the blast blew out all of the glass in the building, and blew the doors open (hard enough to buckle the metal doors and stay open) that were on the opposite side of the building that lead to the break room and bathrooms.

THIS IS WHY YOU STAY IN THE LIFT AND NOT GET OUT AND RUN. He had PPE on and a shield on the front of that lift.
