We worked with Keir previously on the Let Me Go video and chose him again for his ability to create an intense, brooding atmosphere and get great looking fast paced shots to mirror the intensity of the songs. We wanted a dark black and white video to match the theme of the song, a cautionary tale about the dark side of show biz. We used the Model Lauren McConville to star in the video as she could present the perfect mix of innocence that could turn into darkness and rage as the song reaches it’s climax

When I look around I see so-called artists desperately trying to sell themselves and in the process, they lose the essence of who they are. There is a vacuum of authenticity in the music business created by people constantly trying to be perceived as authentic. This song is a story about a tale of caution for those kinds of people. They start out with a unique vision but they grow desperate, desperate to use their talent for a living, to find a place for it but so desperate they end up losing it trying to please everybody.

It happened to John, though he went the other way.

When he was 27 years and in a band back in Australia, they were being gently scouted by a major label. The AR guy came to our rehearsal after hearing some demos.

First thing he said was:
“Great songs! Great voice etc, but I think if you could try and sound more like a male Lilly Allen or Jack Penate we might have something”.

Can you fucking believe it? An Australian rock singer trying to sound like a bunch of indie mockneys. I think I just looked at him like he had 3 heads.. Never spoke to them again.
