Formal vs Informal writing

Formal used for more professional things, (Reports, Articles, Letters)
Informal used in a more casual tone (Texting a friend, Letter to family, Email to friend)

Example
"I am writing to apply for a position as a nurse" - Formal
"I need a job" - Informal
