The Dell 40” Ultrasharp monitor is ideal for productivity with its 5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and extensive connectivity options. Despite being purchased for personal use, its sleek design, easy setup, and excellent color accuracy make it stand out. While not perfect for hardcore gaming due to slower response times and ghosting, it excels in everyday work tasks. Overall, it’s a solid investment for productivity-focused users.

With all the larger size ultrawide monitors (LG's OLED 39" and 45") coming with a dissapointing 3440x1440 resolution, this monitor felt perfect to me since it was high res to support the 40" size while having above 60hz. Praying next gen OLED ultrawides come with high res like this

I've gone through A LOT of monitors, and this is the best for work and gaming. It all comes down to the PPI. And dell is the only one making higher PPI monitors. If you love retina screens, you will enjoy this.

I'm late to watching this, but I've had this monitor since it's release and can honestly say it's THE perfect monitor for me. I'm primarily using it on an Ergotron LX with my 5950X + 4090 build and sometimes my M3 MacBook Air. I've gone from 34" IPS ultrawides to the infamous 42" LG C2 and then to the Alienware 38" ultrawide. For what I do, which is mostly productivity (video editing, photo editing, managing socials, project management) and very occasional gaming, this thing checks every box for me. I desperately missed the C2's 4k vertical resolution but dearly missed ultrawide, so this was easily the best route for me. The curve is fine - not super curved but definitely enough. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and a bit more than some other options, but if your use case is similar to mine, I highly recommend it!

PSA. You can get 4k 120Hz for consoles (well I only have Xbox but might work for PS5). If you set the PBP to 75/25 with the XBOX on the 75 side of the screen. You'll magically get the option for 4K UHD and then select 120Hz. You get a true 4k resolution with no black bars. Plus, bonus, you get space on the other side of the screen for your PC for browsing/discord whatever.

Thank you. I’ve just ordered mine. This is what I’ve been waiting for. 5k2k and high refresh.

At the old price of $1200-1500, this monitor was a steal, I wish I knew about it several months ago. At $2000, this is a much tougher sell. It's basically everything I want in a monitor sans OLED. I'm currently running a 42" LG C4, because I couldn't find anything better for the money.

Current 57" Neo G9 panel type is VA not IPS. This difference helps the Dell's pixels look better at the same PPi. 8:45

Been using this for the past 3 months.. this is an awesome monitor.. I use it across two devices. My primary purpose is macbook pro for Photo and video editing. And now using it for my work and weekend classes. The hub is an awesome addition help to use my older HDDs and devices, too. Cables needed to be a bit longer, though.
Good that I did not choose the apple and ended up with a great choice.
The price was nearly equivalent to 1500 USD in Indian rupees from the dell site in India.

What I am looking at is how to calibrate this monitor going forward.

120hz should be standard this days but manufactorers still go for 60hz on so many screens for office.

Been eyeing this and the 57" Neo G9 for Black Friday, for productivity 99% of the time.

I revisited this site for the Dell and now that the M4 Mac Mini is out, this will be the monitor I buy to go with my new little toy.
Know that what you do helps enhance peoples lives.
Thank you.

I have one of these. Could not be happier. Only thing that would be nice is actual HDR. I can really recommend it!

Hi Pete. I really enjoyed this video but I’m still struggling to understand the concept of MacOS scaling and how much consideration I should place on it when selecting a productivity monitor for my Mac. Do you have any plans to produce a video discussing this issue in more detail? I’ve found current YouTube content on the topic very vague & I really like the way your videos explain things in lay-man’s terms. I’m sure there are many viewers that’d benefit from your explanation, particularly given the highly expected new MacMini release later this month.

iMac users beware! Bought this monitor this week as a dual iMac Pro and PC monitor, and discovered to my dismay that the Dell Display Manager KVM software does not support iMacs! While the iMac connectivity works fine via the thunderbolt cable, I wanted to be able to use keyboard shortcuts instead of the rear buttons to switch between computers, but Dell's KVM software refused to install on an iMac. After pounding the desk for awhile, I found—in teeny print at the end of the Display Manager manual—that oops iMacs are not officially supported! Huge disappointment for an $1800 monitor to not support this functionality for a whole class of Macs (many still in production BTW), and shame on Dell for not being up-front about this (they simply say "and it works for Mac!"). As a workaround, the 3rd-party utility BetterDisplay enables this functionality so I eventually got shortcuts working as desired. Overall I'm happy with the quality of the hardware, but come on Dell, why limit the software functionality?!

If its an ultrawide monitor I do not see why people would not want it curved, makes no sense to me.

great review and probably my next monitor. Still hesitating because of pricing and some "game experience" missing but well done and thx for the review. Would have liked to see how the KVM is working, cabling, speed etc but well done Pete!!

Great review! I’m definitely checking this screen out!

But what I’m even more interested in are those fancy wooden panels you’ve got behind your desk. Where can I by those?

I like the proportion of Dell 40. But I think the image quality is lacking for the price.. Especially the HDR capacity.
