At the end OF while g-man is talking to Shepard if you look up and out of the helicopter you can see a message above you saying "You're not supposed to see this" in green letters in the sky

LMAO I never thought the cliffside from Surface Tension in Opposing Force is actually small

"The player is actually stationary"

*How many more lies have I've been told by the council?*

So they made the scaled down mountains move at different speed to make them look like they are further away. Well that's clever, because I've never noticed the trick.

Lots of clever stuff such as non moving character/moving environment its just impressive.

Pretty good job on the play with perspective by using slightly smaller solids than in original HL1, especially with the cliffside paths and pipes. Also, the stationery player placement is probably because entities playing scripted sequences were a LOT more difficult to utilize with extra movement to the script itself, and it was prone to glitches. I worked hours with Worldcraft back in the day making custom maps and this is indeed the easiest workaround both script- and complexity-wise.

That must be the most nauseating thing I've seen in a while. Like I really had problems watching this. Still a great video. Keep them coming.

I love how you can see the cliff section from Surface Tension.

Despite this game having old graphics, this scene is immersive enough to feel the causes of PTSD.

I suspect the reason why the osprey is stationary while the cliffs move is solve a few problems. First, it makes the scene really compact, and you can freely edit how long everything takes without moving all the navigation points and triggers for every adjustment. Second, the engine seems to have a problem with rubber banding on moving objects like when we see Freeman moving past in the tramcart in Blue Shift. To prevent the passengers of the osprey from whacking out during the intro, it might be easier on the engine to have the outside move while the insides don't change, as the camera is mounted on the inside.

Nice findings! It was cool to look around the map freely. Also that test button is just cute!

Wow taking the playerfreeze out of the map is genius. Love this.

There is this well known golden rule of art when it comes to any kind of scenery: "it doesn't have to be right but to look right". That's basically what they did. That'd an amazing insight of my favorite expansion pack ever I finished dozen times, being a dev myself I should have had the curiosity to do this hahaah

The team, including Shepard are lucky they didn’t get totally wiped out by one of those beams. Great video!

I always thought that part of that map geometry was based off of the Surface Tension geometry from HL1. Interesting to see it replicated just a little bit and get an idea of where everything was through each playable character’s perspective

3.03 you can see black door leading into the tower just next to the crashed plane. But when you get there in chapter Welcome to the Black Mesa, the door is not there.
