being from Guadalajara, I can tell you, that torta ahogada is heaven in a birote, specially if you are " crudo" with hangover...☺️

Haven't seen the full video, but the way i found to make the birote the right way (Jalisco style torta ahogada) is you take a salt water mix and brush it on top of the birote bread, throw it in the oven a few minutes to get the bread to dehydrate and get tough, then you submerge the entire assembled torta in the salsa. I'm sure Rick knows this but if you aren't lucky enough to have been to jalisco yet, try that. Its great 😃

The type of bread is important. It has to stand up to the sauce & not disintegrate.

The birote bread can only be made in Guadalajara and the chile de arbol Yahualica variety also only grows in Jalisco, born and raised in Guadalajara, proud to be Jaliscan 🇲🇽
