In my opinion, and speaking from my experience, people don't want to keep a trading journal from the beginning because they don't trade a single strategy and spend their trading days making decisions based on different factors. When you find your technical edge, you realize that a journal is not only important but indispensable for measuring whether what you're doing makes sense. Seeing the data laid out in an Excel document boosts your confidence that what you're doing works. It doesn't matter if you're going through a drawdown period because your technical edge will work in the long run.
